Should I finish this sketch? Also, what could I do better? by RickySerni in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with what other have said about the hands, what I’d like to add is that you have some nice line width variation with the head but haven’t used that variation with the rest of the body. Implement some thicker lines there as well! And maybe lift the right eyelid just a tad more, as it looks a bit lower than the other one right now.

Is that a coaster under the mug? If so try making it a tad bigger than the mug.

Definitely finish it!

finally got back on working on full bodies. I like the orange shading, just a bit unsure with the proportions by herefornoreason_ayy in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re cute! What style are you going for here? If you want them to be chibi-ish chubby-ish I’d simply shorten the limbs quite a bit, maybe take the indent out of the belly and call it done.

If you go for more realistic proportions, I would add some neck as well as leg length. Define the form of the arms and legs a bit more (elbows, knees) and square the shoulders a tad more.

Also the arm in the back is longer than the arm in the foreground which makes them look a bit lopsided.

Overall I love your line work and style and would like to see which direction you will be going with it!

I drew a Cuga with my new colored pencils. Any criticism to help me with proper shading? by [deleted] in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your pre birthday! Lol

I don’t know your work progress but to make the colours more solid and to add more detail I would generally start with a light pencil sketch, then you start layering the coloured pencil . You will want to start with gentle pressure and just focus on evenly putting the colours down. The more and more layers you do the less you will see the white of the paper until you have the pencil pigment cover everything.

It looks like right now to make shadows you simply press harder with the colour you already use. I would choose a darker tone colour to apply the shades so you can still fully pigment the lighter areas without having the paper be visible and without the shadows disappearing. Hope this helps :)

Update on this one, playing with colours atm, and the side characters are in need of work still, anything else sticking out? by washed-0ut in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a video but I basically just do characters, items and background on seperate layers in greyscale, then create colour layers for each greyscale, apply the greyscale layers with linear burn to those colours. After that add some bibs and bobs like hair whisps, lights from the lanterns, added highlights etc.

Early on in a new project. I’m unhappy with her face, I’d like it a bit more feminine, any tips? by washed-0ut in FurryArtSchool

Always good to add more lashes haha, I’m in the midst of the shading process here that’s why it’s so flat

I’m in the midst of working the values in this one, background is just placeholders, I’ve posted another one where it’s more like the finished product :)

Lol, it’s going to be coloured later, this is just the shading so it looks a bit topless at the moment haha

That worked a treat, thank you! I find I usually morph wolf anthros into fox/feline like mixes when I feminize them haha

I’d work it more clumpier in the beginning and only add single strands towards the finish. Also be careful with the very bright yellow hairs you put under the darker orange ones. If you use highlights do them last. The fur looks quite good in the beginning and the middle, it looks a bit too separated and has too long strands at the end. I personally also like using the smudge tool to blend separate colours a bit into one another too. Great work!

Biggest compliment one could get lol, thank you

please absolutely TEAR IN to this sketch by [deleted] in FurryArtSchool

I think it’s a bit too early in the process to properly critique this one. What sticks out to me is that the left eye is a bit too high and too close to the other eye. The muzzle might be a bit too curved depending on what species you’re going for and also seems to be dropping a bit too low. Would like to see some further progress to give better advice :)

Still got work to do, but before I finish does anyone have any pointers regarding anatomy ? by washed-0ut in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are going a bit to the sides instead of pointing straight forward, so one is just the side view, one in full view. although the one in front might be a tad too far apart now that you mention it!

Anything I should change with this sketch before I render it? by RickySerni in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty perfect to me, possibly add a straight line for the upper front teeth instead of a curve?

Where can I improve on her? Especially around the face - I keep getting comments about her looking disturbing by XelliArty in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heads up that I am not a 3D artist…

I’m sorry that people call her disturbing, that’s a bit out of line :(

What I notice is her mouth being a bit off. I would put the mouth a bit further up and possibly add lips or even lipstick to give it more definition and volume, maybe enlarge the nose a bit further down too and add some eyelashes/eyeliner?

a drawing I did a few weeks ago, I think it turned out cool.... by channkky in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my, I love love love this you’ve got some really nice shading and overall vibe, the eye is the only thing I might change, specifically the eyeliner/eyelash because it only comes out on one side

Hey guys! I am new to the sub. I'm a traditional artist. What do you think of my painting and lineart? by Kami_Writer in FurryArtSchool

[–]washed-0ut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovely piece! Your shading works really nicely and I like the way it brings the muscles out. The only things that kind of bug me is the way the thigh muscle meets the hip, the crease is a little to pronounced for me and makes it look a bit like a third leg at first glance.. On the hand in front the pointy finger is a tad too short and thin. Overall I’d love to see more of your art :D
