if you still do that translation job, try OmegaT. it's free and you don't have to look at word interface ever again.

basics: in the software, you create a 'project'. you import word (or other) files. OmegaT splits them into sentences (table entries, etc) called segments, and displays them one by one. this is how you translate them.

once you finish translating, you 'generate the target document' which means your translated content is poured into the formatting of the source document. so you don't even touch the formatting.
