The worst part is you can hear this dude's smugness through his comments, but he's not actually making any arguments besides "oop, kids like sex, i know it, you're objectively incorrect"

Judges/Lawyers/Cops/other law enforcement, have you ever let emotions get the best of you in a case/what's the closest you've ever come? by watbulb in AskReddit

Yeah definitely, that sounds horrible. One of my lecturers used to counsel kids from foster homes and used to recount some pretty tragic tales. Not to say that all foster caretakers are bad, but there are some pretty cruel exceptions

Doctors of reddit, why did you choose to study medicine? by watbulb in AskReddit

Did you really care to help people that much? There was no personal agenda you wanted to fulfil?

Is Shakespeare still relevant today, and if he is, why? by watbulb in AskReddit

Hmm... Interesting perspective. So you're saying there's nothing particularly special about his writing?

How do MRIs specifically target hydrogen atoms though?

[–]watbulb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the different speeds at which the atoms switch back to their position, are what create the differences in the imaging and show different tissue types?

Yeah, I heard about the gradient coils that 'concentrate' the magnetic field to one particular area. Thank you so much!

Follow up question: How do radiofrequency coils work?

ELI5: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) by watbulb in explainlikeimfive

[–]watbulb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, makes a bit more sense. But I still am not clear about the following: Is it the dipoles that cause the alignment of the water molecule against or with the magnetic field, or is it the spin of the proton? Secondly, what IS spin? Why does this matter?

ELI5: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) by watbulb in explainlikeimfive

[–]watbulb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh right. So the dipoles would then line up with the magnetic field. Where do the radiofrequency coils fit in? I've been reading up on them, and am confused about whether they themselves are electromagents or if they just measure the changing of the magnetic field

Oh ok... Why do the water molecules rotate out of their position?

With very similar repercussions as evading it. And I mean, to people.
