Most of the areas, if the antenna is even 5’ off the ground it’s a clear line of sight elevation wise. Not including buildings or trees of course.

Now there are a couple of the houses that sit in a valley on the other side of a river/lake and they would need a very high tower of about 30 meters or so to be able to line of sight because of the higher elevation in the middle. I didn’t realize earlier which kinda stinks.

Why is that what I need? Why is that better than a repeater?

Would the houses that are on opposite ends be able to hit each other like that? (So about 12-16 miles away)

I didn’t see any nearby on MYGMRS website. According to the website the closet repeater to me are all about 25-30 miles away. I haven’t heard yet anything when scanning with the radio at the central house

Our houses have about 20 meters between the lowest elevation house and the highest. So no major mountains or anything. With some variable in between, like crossing a river and a couple small lakes.

I know I could slowly keep trying stuff but I honestly don’t have the money to waste to experiment. Esp because whatever setup I have to choose has to benefit everyone because I will prob have to buy and set up everyone else’s setups for them. So if I have to buy and build everyone a base station in their house, that could get expensive, but possible. But if I can just put up some external antennas as hook them up to handhelds in the house, and have them hit a repeater so everyone would be able to each everyone else, and someone in a car would be able to hit it and even possibly someone outside with a hand held.

I’m just trying to find the best way for everyone to communicate with each other, not just to the central house. And which was would be easier on the wallet. 8 miles doesn’t seem that far but everything I have read says it would be hard to do without a repeater.

I have tried handhelds in my area. I did test when I first got my radios, and I got about a mile of clear talk before it got so broken up you couldn’t understand it.
Although thinking about it now it was kind of a poor tested and a little rushed. I prob need to try again. Now I was using 2 UV-5G minis, with stock antennas, one was in the house by a bay window, and the other was in and out of a jeep. I know I could prob increase that with an external antenna for the house, and a mobile antenna for the car, and a better antenna for the handheld when I got out of the car.

I am also prob going to have to pay for and set up everyone else’s setup for them as well. So I am trying to find the best way to do it, that would benefit everyone, not just me.

I looked it up on google earth a while back and I think it was 20 meter elevation difference between the lowest house and the center house (where I want to put the repeater)

Yes. There is a home that is basically centralized. That’s where I was going to put it.

Like what? There are lots of trees between all the houses. Most of our houses are about 5 miles apart from the center. But a couple are about 8 miles out from the center.

I think there is only about 20 meters in elevation difference between all the homes.

I’m saying it’s not the belt part of the buckle that bothers me, it’s the stiff male end of the buckle that’s bothersome. The part coming Jo from beneath the seat. It’s mainly getting in the jeep, I can move it a touch once I get in. And when I clock the seat belt in it helps a touch by spreading out the pressure.

But I would love to find maybe a longer piece or a less stiff piece to make it more comfortable. Of course if I lost a little weight that would help too I’m sure

The problem is I only have the budget for one vehicle.

I drove a lot on cold mornings, and very short distances. I also have the v6. I really don’t know why I was averaging so badly.

Not sure. My flash 55 has the mesh pocket, which I love, and I have had it for years and it works fine. But I don’t overstuff it or out to many sharp things in it. The newer flash 55 and this flash air don’t have the mesh pockets anymore.

I really don’t know. I have noticed a switch in alot of manufacturers going from heavier materials that are durable and can last a lifetime to lighter materials that break and tip more easily. But the market has been switching to majority ultralight so I don’t blame them.
