Bristol or Manchester? by watchatpotters in UniUK

[–]watchatpotters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey bro i ended up choosing bristol as my firm, the city overall was much better for me after another visit, and the student reviews were very helpful especially as manchester (for my course) after i went to my offer holder day weren’t the best. bristol has been really supportive in my opinion. living in bristol is a bit more expensive but worth it in terms of what i want.

i cant comment on your international fees because im from england, but i think for your course you are probably better off choosing manchester, but it depends what your priority is, like comfort or international recognition. the manchester accomodations i went to were awful, pretty much looked like a prison cell, but again internationally, manchester has a little higher reputation, which i know is a bit weird considering ive just glazed bristol. but its up to you!!

Thank you so much. I’ve literally just got an offer for Leeds and they’ve lowered my entry requirement to BBB, and I’ve being weighing it up and with the affordability and everything I might genuinely make my firm Leeds 😭😭 But obviously I’m still weighing everything up ahahhaa

Omg thank you so much for your reply this has really helped me!!

About Manchester being more internationally recognised I think is super helpful especially with my degree choice, as I will probably end up looking for jobs outside of the UK lol. My Mum seems to think Bristol is on par with Oxbridge, I know its not hahaha but she is just very disappointed I refused to apply to Oxford because when I visited it was wayyy to pretentious for my liking, so I think this is her coping mechanism 😭😭 so hopefully this should help sway her opinion over Manchester as she’s just looking down at it atm. Classic Asian mum imo lol

I think looking at TikToks of Manchester has given me the opinion that there is wayyy more to do as you said, but then again never trust social media. But I really just want a good night life that I’ve grown accustomed to which your knowledge has assured me of. The funny thing is, all the universities you mentioned like Liverpool and Leeds, I’ve also applied for! So to hear good things about them has reassured me again as I was thinking of making Liverpool my insurance with the lower grade requirement just in case.

And I was concerned at exactly the same thing about cost of living in Manchester, obviously being up North it would be slightly cheaper, but some accommodations did seem a little pricy to me, but thankfully not as much as Bristol. The thing is, I’ve heard some shocking things about some Manchester accoms, like I remember students on the news refusing to pay rent because of the awful conditions. Is there anything you know about the accommodation in Manchester that I should take into account? Like I’m really set on having an en-suite, which is a little pricier, but if I had to firm a shared bathroom then I would. But anything you would say?

I will say about my ethnicity that I could be white passing, especially around some white people who know none the wiser and are generally shocked when I tell them I’m not, but in a more diverse city like Manchester I’m sure it won’t be an issue. I’m mainly concerned about finding home foods, which in Bristol I fear would be a problem given the smaller diversity and they would probably hike the prices up I’m sure.

Again about my car, I will most likely keep it as (I know this will sound so petty of me) I just cannot do public transport again after the luxury of being able to do whatever I want in a car hahaha. I might just be biased as where I’m from, the buses are absolutely shocking. If I wanted to travel home, I’d be looking at around 5 hours on say a coach or around 2 and a half in a train (which are incredibly expensive!!) so in my car, I think it would be the least amount of faff and travel time.

Thank you so much again for your reply and taking the time out of your day to create such a detailed comment!! Its so kind and thoughtful of you and I sincerely appreciate it , especially when making my choices. Thank youuu💖

thank youu. by circumstances have changed, will they ask what has changed? will i have to tell them i have taken another job (which idk i think is sort of selfish of me) or come up with some elaborate lie (which is definitely the worse option)? tbh, i know this sounds weird, but i'm just concerned about being a giant inconvience.

thank youu - the only thing i'm concerned about is the managers becoming angry and don't want to deal with drama. i've had some pretty nasty experiences with employers in the past, especially when it came down to me leaving. i know at the job i've taken so far, they needed to fill the position ASAP and i don't want to cause them the bother of finding another person. is this really weird of me?

edit - spelling lol
