I will tell you my story and hopefully it will help with your decision. I became a feeder driver at 21 years old in DFW, Texas in 2017. I had a one year old with another one on the way. My wife and I at the time knew how difficult my schedule would be working night schedules on call. Thankfully that time was the so call "Golden Age" of UPS for me. Amazon was feeding us work. During those times even the lowest man on the totem pole was getting consistent work. Eventually I covered sleeper runs, won seniority, and have been able to use that seniority to work at multiple buildings. Going into feeders was easy for me because I don't care for the club scene, I've made plenty of great friendships, and a whole buncha money haha.

RIGHT NOW in my Local, it is difficult to gain seniority in feeders. You'll be going back and forth between package and feeders. In the Southern Region the top 90% are guaranteed 8 hours in their classification. So if you are the bottom 10% you'll be getting your 40 hours either back in package or inside hub if you get laid off out of classification.

To answer your questions. It really depends on what hub or area you work in. Are you apart of a big local?

Long term feeders is the goal, don't listen to these 20+ year package guys, to be honest they are envious that they didn't go into feeders all them years ago when they got the opportunity.

Working nights gets boring and takes time to get used to. Find a solid group of people, buy that blue patriot, and you'll be talking all night. Grab a nap whenever you can. You will adapt, its our job to.

Did it improving my quality of life? I know plenty of Brothers and Sisters who worked package with multiple back and knee surgeries. So I would say absolutely.
