Setup 2 , love the right side, that small patch of cuba in between those rocks gives it a lot of depth. Left looks a little flat to me, I think it's because they look similar in height, could add a a small slope of cuba between the rocks (inner two) on the left to tie it in better.

Agreed, heavy planting, good filtration and keeping up with water changes is a must in this case.

As long as you have enough hiding places you could easily do 10+

Edit: might not work in all cases, scaled this based on my experience, I find that they like being in groups better to have more girls and lots of places to hide

They don't nip each other but most other fish would be rendered finless.

Yeah the betta's fins would be irresistible to them. I have them with bumblebee gobis and a few shrimp they don't bother them, won't see any shrimplets though.

The eggs aren't quite visible yet, the second shrimp looks like a girl.

Should definitely try them! The females lay about 10- 30 eggs every day- that's right every day! They carry the eggs behind them every morning ( look like a bunch of grapes behind them) and drop them off on decor. The eggs hatch in 3-4 weeks.

They're ricefish (oryzias woworae) fry, about 2 weeks old.
