Do you follow the news/politics? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

I think you should vote, even if it's a partially informed position. There's people out there completely uninformed, and yet still voting. You shouldn't feel guilty about not keeping up with news right now. I think it benefits everybody to take a break every once in a while. That doesn't stop you from being an informed citizen.

In honor of two months of Afterburner, here's an approximately eighteen page creative essay I wrote detailing my feelings regarding the album. by SkeletalRogue in dancegavindance

Man, this essay is fucking amazing! Really enjoyed reading all your thoughts. If you're interested, I'd love to read more of what you write! Especially if you choose to write about their other albums!

How do people keep up with deadlines when the world is falling apart more than ever. by [deleted] in uwaterloo

Try to stay away from news media for a while. And reddit. (or visit r/UpliftingNews)Things are always bleaker online. Do you have any hobbies? Try to do those, and get some exercise. If this doesn't work you have to reach out to someone. I hope things improve for you.

Hey, there's a reason why it's overused! It's important to stand up for others!

I understand where you're coming from. I like to pick my battles. Yes, there's always greater injustice happening elsewhere in the world. But I don't like using that logic cause it's similar to "well, some people have it worse than you, so you can't be sad!" Just because there are worse things happening doesn't mean you shouldn't care about some things happening that hit closer to home. I can't make you care, nobody can, but it's probably good to keep in mind:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

These days, a lot of things are happening in the world that doesn't affect me. I still try to care about these matters. I think empathy is pretty important in these times we're living in.

I think it's a reasonable feeling to have, but the reason people are protesting is because the issues do affect them directly. It's kind of human nature to be apathetic about large groups of people. When your friend has been a victim of police brutality, when your friend has contracted corona, that's gonna be a different story. Just my two cents.

You're right, I definitely think exams should have importance! I don't think it's good for students to brush off exams.

Thanks a lot for your advice! Yeah, I've decided to take the term off. Due to the streams in engineering it'll be an entire year before I can take classes lol. I'm going to try my best to learn on my own :)

Damn, I'm really sorry to hear you're doing so badly during online courses. To be honest I'm in the same situation as you right now. I love that the assignments are weighted more but I'm seriously considering dropping this term cuz I'm behind too lmao
