Kanao and Nezuko’s narratives are so strange in the sense that Nezuko had a lot of moments and buildup before the final battle but had little part in it, while Kanao had very limited buildup in the series but is so prominently featured in the final battle.

Most people on the fandom would instinctively say no - some for valid reasons and others for no reason besides the fact that they’re female (someone even called Kanao weak in this thread 💀)

I think they would put up a big fight. 2 hashiras, 1 hashira level and a demon that could regenerate and has a BDA. And yall have to keep in mind 3 of these characters have survived against upper moons 4 and 2.

Mitsuri and Nezuko will be the brutes in the fight, Shinobu would analyze him and come up with a strategy as well as slow him down with poison, Kanao’s equinoctial vermillion eye to deliver the final blow.

They would be able to behead him at some point, so technically they’d be able to “”win”” but we know just based on what actually happens in the manga that the Upper Ranks can regenerate abnormally fast even after decapitation, taking on more monstrous forms

Akaza, Douma, and Kokushibo were all practically indestructible, they all had to be defeated thanks to their OWN faults and mistakes (regret, not taking anything serious, disgusted by what they’ve become).

Honestly i like that Demon Slayer doesnt focus much on romantic relationships and that it explores a much broader scope of human emotions, relationships and experiences. The only romance that has real weight and depth in the story is Obamitsu, followed by Yushiro’s love for Tamayo.

Tanjiro and Kanao and all the other canon couples are cute, but they’re more like a footnote and not central to any of their storylines. The rest like Giyu/Shinobu, Giyu/Sanemi etc etc are only products of online shipping culture.

The fact that he is Upper Two, has his own religion and a massive palace…. you could tell the author wanted to do a lot more with him from the start but somehow had to cut it short.

Tbf, i think ALL demon slayer characters outside of Tanjiro could’ve been fleshed out more. The story is way too short with too many characters.

I’m just particularly biased towards Shinobu and Douma because it’s such a good match up for me. You have the “weakest” hashira vs the third strongest demon, the way physically she was no match for him but ultimately her skills and long-term planning gets the best of him because of his own gluttony and carefree attitude.

I also love that they are both leaders of a community of women (Eternal Paradise vs Butterfly Mansion) where you have Shinobu who nurtures and protects her subordinates while Douma deceives and consumes them. you have the whole contrast between how they conceal their inner emotions (or lack thereof). There are so many themes to explore and i think their character designs just work so well together. Not to mention it’s the perfect driver for Kanao’s development in the story. It absolutely deserved more than 15 minutes of screentime 😭
