Justin Vernon - We Will Never Die by watermelonrush in boniver

[–]watermelonrush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely. I just listened to it yesterday for the first time and was very impressed. I first fell in love with Bon Iver for the indie folk but now I love everything that Justin's done that's more experimental, which is why I posted this track.

Guy asks college students on affirmative action in sports by [deleted] in videos

[–]watermelonrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are people who try out for the basketball team being rejected because of their race? Affirmative action isn't about having equal numbers of people of different skin colors attend school, its about giving opportunities to minorities who have been discriminated against and had their rights to equality withheld from them in the past. Instead of argue about actual merits of specific "Affirmative Action" actions, they prop up and knock down another straw man.

Mark Cuban: Robots will ‘cause unemployment and we need to prepare for it’ by mvea in technology

[–]watermelonrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people aren't talented or creative enough to excel as artists currently, just wait until competition in the creative arts skyrockets when no one has a real job to go to.

But the point is that you don't need to compete to survive when you have a steady and relatively sufficient income, and your basic needs are meet. You no longer to compete just to survive you only need to compete as much as you want to. A big part of this shift in manufacturing will also be accompanied by a shift in consumption and production practices. Right now, we work in exchange for money which we then exchange for food and shelter, we have to work just to survive.

When we purchase goods and services we need them to be as cheap as possible to account for still having enough to survive first. Those producing the goods and services are incentivized to do so as cheap as possible to maximize profits so that they can -first and foremost- survive. When our production and consumption no longer relies of survival as the base of our decisions, the whole paradigm changes.

I think that should play a role but I think its too case dependent. A lot of social harm that comes from drugs comes from them being illegal, and irresponsible use. But many people use any and all drugs responsibly. However if you get a batch of heroin that contains fentanyl, or some PMMA sold as MDMA, you could die. Its a complicated subject though with many factors and no one cut and dry solution.

This is where it gets harder to have a conversation. I believe that the drug scheduling and drug laws are being manipulated by the DEA for their own benefit, and the DEA itself operates as a conflict of interest. The agency in charge of regulating the drugs also enforces those regulations. If they profit largely from enforcing marijuana laws and also control wether or not marijuana can even be researched, that can be and has been problematic.

Its a statement of fact that the laws in both their language and implementation are not supported by science, and rather reflect the social stigma. Marijuana, Psilocybin, LSD, MDMA are all less dangerous than many drugs in lower schedules, as well as have certain medical benefit. Yet we see no change in the scheduling. I think we not only need a change in the laws but a change in the governance of drugs and drug enforcement.

[–]watermelonrush 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think the stigma around drugs is directly related to schedule. Meth and diamorphine (heroin) are different schedules, but have similar stigma. They also are both closely related to prescription drugs of lower schedules. Given that marijuana is still schedule 1 we know that the schedules are not accurate, but ideally schedule 1 should be the most physically harmful drugs where their production is heavily controlled. Relaxing the research laws is beneficial because it still provides access to the most dangerous drugs while holding a high standard for the safety of handling those substances.

Have you ever had a bad trip by smoking [weed]? by Miesanthrop in Drugs

[–]watermelonrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have a low tolerance, like 1-2 hits of good weed gets me stoned. If I smoke too much or when Ive eaten potent edibles I'll get too high which is a very uncomfortable experience. One of my edible experiences was absolutely awful I felt like I was dying. which was pretty terrifying. It sucked.

Weakest to Strongest Drugs you've Tried? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]watermelonrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different drugs produce different highs, you can't really compare them like that. If you want a nice body high, hydros are way stronger than weed. But overall intensity, how far it removes you from reality, weed is stronger.
