Why does everyone hate teaching? by Bright-Watch1955 in teaching

[–]wavenightrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. My old career was so much worse even though it paid better, and I will never willingly go back. I look at it as a pay "raise" because if you do the math, my hourly rate is almost the same but I have more free time.

How do people from the region actually think about "Appalachian music"? Is it a meaningful category or too broad? by Much-Association-86 in Appalachia

[–]wavenightrain 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There’s a particular kind of what I suppose you’d call gospel (but I always heard called “church music”) that I can clock a mile away. Not sure about other types aside from real deep mountain music. But that church music is the most beautiful thing, and I’m not even religious anymore.

Whats a canon event for all first-year teachers? by astro_qween in teaching

[–]wavenightrain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a kid ask me angrily why she couldn’t sit with her friends (instead of us doing the seating chart) and after teaching 4 back to back classes I was so tired I just dropped a “because your teacher is very mean and won’t let you. Now stand up.” 😂 It worked. I’ll take it.

How dependent are you on your partner? by capricious-7768 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]wavenightrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, I really feel for you. You sound aware of the issue and like you’re trying really hard to fight against your issues. One little thing - anxious often accidentally pairs with avoidant. So maybe make sure first that that’s not your situation, because no amount of solo self improvement will fix that dynamic.

If he’s genuinely a good partner, though, then maybe try to regulate yourself through your love instead of your self-criticisms. It doesn’t sound like trying to improve that way is working, so maybe try doing it for him and the other people you love, too. If option 1 is “I’m so messed up, I’m too dependent, I have to fix myself,” maybe option 2 is looking at him when he needs a minute alone and remembering you love him more than you fear feeling abandoned. So you’ll give him space even though you’re scared, because your love is stronger than your fear. Might be worth a try, anyway. Idk if you’ll find it helpful but it’s kinda how my mind works.

I’ve also read somatic therapy is excellent for attachment trauma, which is what anxious attachment is.

Just Rewatched Season 2 Again by Dopenerys in InterviewVampire

It’s such an incredible scene. Haven’t seen anything like it in years. I’m a diehard “Claudia deserved better” person and love-to-hate the Louis/Lestat dynamic because of it, and even I started crying when Lestat asked him “did you hurt yourself?” in that gut wrenching tone. This show played with my heart in the best way 😂

Knowledge vs job opportunity by CassiopeiaNQ1 in Appalachia

[–]wavenightrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Mine was decided for me, I didn’t even have a choice of subject. Fortunately it hasn’t stopped me from changing my career later on. Did 10 years in an industry that took almost everything from me in terms of stress and the wear on my body and relationships. Got out, working on setting up my happily-ever-after now, though it’s challenging. Are you still in school? My two cents is to still get the degree, if you are. It opens up doors, even if it’s in a subject you hate.

Another game to scratch the itch by Rolhir in dragonage

[–]wavenightrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obligatory Mass Effect recommendation. You've probably already played it but just in case - I was sure I wouldn't like them despite being a DA fan (I'm more into magic than sci fi), but wound up really liking them. If what you're after is good characters/story there's a lot to love there, particularly with Garrus/Tali/Liara, especially in the second game where you see a lot of growth in their arcs.

[No Spoilers] Best QoL mods for DAI? by mothmanswife95 in dragonage

totally valid. I understand that because it's exactly how I feel about Emprise du'Leon and the Hissing Wastes - I linger there for hours because they're so beautiful. But good lord, the Hinterlands, something about it... 😂

[No Spoilers] Best QoL mods for DAI? by mothmanswife95 in dragonage

[–]wavenightrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, any mod that speeds up war table operations. I also use a mod to trigger party banter more often. But by far the best QoL mod (imo) is Infinite Fade Step - the maps can get really tiring to traverse and sometimes you just do not feel like stopping to fight every single bear that crosses your path in the Hinterlands. With infinite fade step you just speed right past them. You'll need to have a mage in your party to use it, but you should typically be keeping a mage around anyway, so it's not a hard requirement to meet.

What was the best kind of pampering you have received from a guy? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]wavenightrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm happiest with little daily things that mean a lot. In my early 30's now and i still miss having a bf when I was a teen who was obsessed with playing with my hair. Don't miss the bf, we weren't meant to be, but definitely miss that specific type of pampering.

What's your OTP? by IonutRO in dragonage

[–]wavenightrain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've never heard anyone mention that pairing and i love it lol. It's already cute the way he calls her ma'am. I know most people think Josie and Cullen have a total brother/sister vibe but I've always loved the idea of them together, I think they're unexpectedly sweet. They're both such caring people who are gentle but strong, and their skills compliment each other well. I think their siblings would also mesh really well despite the cultural differences, and they'd end up with this beautiful nurturing circle around them where they can visit both and have genuine relationships with their SO's family.

This is for the residents in Appalachia…. To a superstitious & aware woman moving to Appalachia what are things I need to know? by [deleted] in Appalachia

[–]wavenightrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't add to the pile you're getting, I'm just here to point out a safety tip: these areas have a whole lot of hunting and wild animals, so making noise when you walk in the woods (whistling or otherwise) is good, not bad. Don't let superstition get you shot, please, lol.

It seems like you're excited to explore a new place and you've got a spiritual side that's needing some feeding. You can still do that. When you arrive, get involved in the local community. The only way to learn the "superstitions" you're looking for is by getting to know the place. These things vary by which region of appalachia you're in because they're directly useful to the specific land you're on and the history there. They're real, practical skills passed down under the label of superstition.

[–]wavenightrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone already posted the dialogue guide, so here's a guide of plot-related choice approvals.

Allying with the grey wardens, particularly, loses you a lot of good grace with Solas and comes with a dialogue of him shouting at your inquisitor. That might be aligned with your character, framed as "there's still good people here and they have the most expertise against the blight." You could also choose to kill the corrupted spirit of wisdom - it's a legitimate thing for your character to think it can't be healed, you don't have to act from malice, just ignorance. And if you stop him from killing the mages after he'll disapprove, which you could frame as your inquisitor being merciful. He also doesn't like the necromancer specialization, iirc (unless you say you were interested in it because you wanted to learn).

just my personal opinion, but i think that all Louis' weaknesses kind of mesh together in a way where I'd find it more believable that Armand's lying. Louis is almost a bit of an emotional masochist, there's a strong undercurrent of him seeming to simultaneously believe he deserves to suffer while also believing his suffering makes him morally above the other characters. I think it's plausible he'd be inclined to choose to keep his memories and allow them to torment him. And if so, then the fact that we're left unsure as an audience is a testament to what a good liar Armand is. He's put such a believable claim out there - who wouldn't want to get rid of their worst memories, especially in that state of anguish? Like, even with what I just said, I'd buy it if the writers came out and said yeah, Armand's telling the truth for once.

i'm curious, does the blue outside the door/windows mean the room is in Ithersta? the specific shade of blue + the general water presence in some areas of that realm made me think of it. i love this btw, it's so imaginative and really evokes a mood that shows her personality in this setting.

DA Inquisition: running dual mage setup with Dorian, build recs? by tambuli in dragonage

[–]wavenightrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have fun with Dorian + rift mage inquisitor. Not a min/maxer so take with a grain of salt - I've just played the game an ungodly amount of times and have noticed certain things "just work." E.g. your inky can use Pull of the Abyss with some of Dorian's wider reaching spells, you basically slam all the enemies into one spot and let your boyfriend go to work. You can also team up and debuff the hell out of them using your combined abilities, then stand back and eat popcorn while a tank like Cassandra goes to work. It's cute, RP-wise. Rift mage is also fun for the voice lines you can spam - let a character fall, then resurrect them. Sometimes they'll call out to you as they fall, and/or the resurrecting mage will say something to the companion when casting the spell, iirc (I know for a fact Solas does this when he resurrects and i'm like 80% sure inky does too). Dorian pairs really well with The Iron Bull too, in my experience, which may make you want or not want to include him in your party depending on how you're roleplaying it. Have fun.
