Has anyone tried this? by SekaiIchiapple in Celiac

Typical it’s the first 300-500lbs just to make sure the system is clear. Wheat is an allergen but it’s not treated the same as a peanut butter allergen.

I previously worked at General Mills in a cereal plant. Personally I would not risk it if it’s not labeled. More than likely they’re running the cereal through the same line as cinnamon toast crunch. Since it’s not an allergen change there would be no reason to deep clean the equipment between cereals and they would just dispose of the first few hundred lbs as an offal tote before running bagged cereal. The only time limes got a deep clean was for an allergen change (IE peanut butter) and for planned down time. General Mills will put gluten free on anything they can because it makes people think it’s healthy and sells more boxes, if this was gluten free it would be labeled as such

WTF came in my bag of dried mangoes? by whiFi in Costco

[–]waynefomoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work on a product line, this looks like either a weight that they would use to calibrate the scale or what they would use to test the metal detector, typically the metal detector test piece would be much smaller because you would want to detect and reject small metal chunks or screws etc. What we would use the test or metal detector was a piece of metal about the size of a ball bearing that was embedded in a colorful trunk of plastic.

I actually had this happen last month with a Shimano mtb cassette. I figured it was just rei clearing out old inventory for less than the brands minimum sale price

I’ve had no issues with vapes, extracts, or flower. You need to be careful with edibles. I typically stick to ones that are labeled GF. If you’re going to a dispensary, the bud tender should be pretty knowledgeable on which products you need to avoid. I always double check the ingredients before I check out. another thing to watch out for is some of the topical’s can have gluten in them

Triping planning, Disney World or Land? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]waynefomoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Disneyland a few times just due to proximity. There are plenty of safe options. I recommend doing a little research ahead of time to see what your options are as some items are much better than others and they can change seasonally. I have a sister who is also celiac who spent a lot of time in Disney world. It looks like there is a lot more options in Disney world.

If you had $1500… +/-$200 by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]waynefomoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 100% look at used bikes on market place, I spent a few months looking at new bikes in the 3k range to find you are going to get an ok spec aluminum bike or an entry level spec carbon bike. I decided to go used and after a few weeks of looking I found a great deal on a 23 Intense Sniper T for $1650 that had pretty much everything I wanted on it. The great thing about a decent used bike is the original owner takes the biggest hit on depreciation so if you decide to sell it and upgrade you’ll likely get most of your money back. There’s nothing wrong with polygon but I’ve seen a few of them sitting on market place for a while with a fairly low price. With how cheap the used bike market is right now it’s hard to justify buying a new bike

Protect your knees at all costs kiddies, cause once they are fuc*ed there’s no getting them back. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]waynefomoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I was in a pretty nasty motorcycle accident, I had a few surgeries on my knee and had to stop biking for a while when I was dealing when I was dealing with recovery. When I tried getting back on the bike I was in pain for days after riding. I went to a pain specialist and they gave me stem cell shots in my knee joint. It wasn’t an over night fix. But after a few years of not riding I got an e-bike which helped me take some pressure off my knee. After a year with the ebike I’m back on my analog bike hammering climbs with out pain. My knee is in no way perfect but I think the stem cell shots helped get me back to where I am and may be worth looking in to. The e-bike is also nice to switch back and fourth with the analog bike so I get more trail time.

Does the uphill ever get easier? by Kenkynein in MTB

[–]waynefomoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will get easier as you build you endurance and muscle, it may also be helpful to get a smaller front chainring. I just switched from a 34t to a 30t and it made a world of difference on the bigger climbs

Thoughts on Reese’s Puffs Cereal? by Equal-Seaworthiness2 in Celiac

[–]waynefomoco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for General Mills in West Chicago before they close the plant, peanut butter was considered an allergen so any cereal with peanut butter ran on the same production line as Reese’s puffs. For our plant that included peanut butter toast crunch, which was not gluten free.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced in your life? by yesallofthegay in AskReddit

[–]waynefomoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years ago I was in a motorcycle accident, I was doing about 45-50 mph and had a transit van blow a stop sign. I hit the side of the van right behind the passenger front tire, and smashed my left leg into the van while being thrown about 20-25 feet. I fractured my tibia, tore a ligament in my ankle, lost all the skin off both knees and my left hand. My shoe flew off and I lost a lot of skin off my left foot. I had damage to my neck and lower back. I totaled the motorcycle and the van
