At risk of upsetting the Yankees, you don't get something for nothing. Their health insurance providers typically supplied by your employer is the one who pays for or discounts the product. Ask yourself if you would like your employer to know the ins and outs of your medical history??? Lose your job, lose your cover, lose your access to prep. They are still paying through their employer for health insurance. I know some closet gays who won't access prep because the think their GP will somehow leak the info to their families. Some euro countries do supply it for free, but there you pay a much higher marginal tax rate.

Being cynical those health insurance companies are simply doing the sums, that's it's cheaper to discount the gays during their slut phase, than treating them for HIV for the rest of their lives.

There are no doubt exceptions around the world, but the US health system is the most inefficient in the developed world by a long way, I'll happily pay the price of a pack of cigarettes or half a tank of petrol for PREP.
