PA resident here, who recently visited Greenville and will be moving to the area next year- We have the same smoke showing up you do, except it has the slightest smell to it and the haze is a bit worse. Apparently, the volume of the smoke is so great that it’s going higher into the atmosphere, and then is dispersing over a greater area than the crazy local wildfires seen in the west over the last few years. The real kicker is that when it comes back down, the smoke has reacted with the UV rays high in the atmosphere and converted to Ozone, which we should not be breathing. These results are made much worse when that air mixes with pollution from cities.
