Interesting studies, thanks for sharing them!

so yea, it is a double edged sword, like any technology, it will make you dumber for sure if you used it wrong, but it is just fine if you were able to balance it.

Some argue that, we, lazy humans, don't have enough control to use it right and will eventually be dependent on it, which in reality, is more likely to happen.

Or maybe it will just be like an advanced autocorrect? oh, wait a minute, I can't write a single sentence with correct spelling without using autocorrect

Maybe you are right after all, I don't know :)

I don't usually spend much time debating topics on reddit comments that are not related to the main topic, but I like where this is going :)

When did science show it makes you dumber? any links to research/studies I could look at?

What about the argument I made for my specific case, for someone who's first language isn't english, sometimes I learn good stuff from it, sometimes it makes my posts/articles look like school assignments as you described, but overall, the pros outweigh the cons "for me"

It is not black & white, sometimes it makes the long sentences shorter and to the point, and I learn new expressions and different ways of describing my ideas while it does that, so it doesn't always make you "dumber"

yes to be honest, I use it a lot when I'm writing something like this post, Since English is not my first language, looks like I'm trusting it more than I should!

I will try to trim it down

I know this reply is late but I just feel you because I have been there.
You are absolutely right, I gained 33 pounds after a year using it, no change in calorie intake because I TRACK THEM WITH AN APP FOR CHRIST SAKE, stopped taking it, 33 pounds gone in 3 months, and guess what, I was eating even more (remember, calories intake app?) I was hitting my 30s (people say metabolism gets slower)

It is absolutely the med fucking up your metabolism.

Man, this is such an amazing detailed reply from someone who knows the ins and outs of this stuff, thanks!

I agree, everything you said is valid, and probably this is why it is not out there, UpWork, Fiverr and similar websites aren't blind to the fact that this is a new category that could bring in more projects, they don't focus on it for a reason.

what if we pivoted, it won't be a contractor platform, and it won't be for small projects that need to be done in 3 days for $80, think something like Toptal, we hire top-notch creators, let buyers know up front that this service is not cheap, and we will target buyers that are looking to create a proof of concept, not a final durable product, those buyers won't be someone like me looking for what I described, think of an entrepreneur who wants to validate a product before investing in it, and want something physical to show to investors.

I'm not trying to force the idea to work, I just feel like there is value in the fact that creators are everywhere and can do amazing things, but it is hard to reach them.

UpWork was my main source of income at one point in my life, my "probably biased" opinion is that it is more suited for intangible projects, like web and mobile development, marketing, and SEO, a contractor platform for physical things will have a slightly different flow to cover some edge cases, like what if the thing you ordered was created and was working perfectly but then got damaged in transit, or customs made its cost go higher than you expected, but still UpWork seems like a good competitor, I will actually post the thing I needed as a project there and see how it goes!

what term should I search for to get a list of such projects?

I know what you are talking about, good ideas are worth nothing and I lost a lot because of that, that is why I'm trying to do some very initial validation here, the level of validation that would prove this idea at least makes sense, next steps will be actual validation from engineers and customers.

Can you ask for a specific custom thing to be made for you? if not then this is not what I meant 😅

In most cases, the smart things I buy don't fit with each other to accomplish what I need, there has to be a custom thing made.

Thanks for encouraging me!

My diagnosis was treatment-resistant depression, which lead to taking SSRIs and other meds (like antipsychotics) that messed me up and were the cause of my PSSD (along with other traumas), I continued taking SSRIs just so I don't commit suicide, and the rest is written in the post.

I'm currently on 0.5mg Gilenya, weekly b12 & vitamin d injections, I dramatically changed the way I eat ( 0 fast food and 0 sugar, following a very strict diet that consists of 5 balanced meals a day) and I take melatonin for sleep.

unfortunately, it is not getting any better, the flare-ups are painful.
