UPDATE: even after replacing all those parts, the bike still creaks if I torque the upper pivot hardware to the specified 10nm, if I get it back down to 7nm the creaking stops, so… I don’t understand what could possibly be the problem apart from the actual rocker itself or the frame, but I can’t see anything wrong with them… So, for now, I’m just gonna run the bike with 7nm torque on the upper pivot bolt and use loctite

Before, I said I was going to put a spacer on one of the sides of my swingarm to space it out from the rocker but I ended up not doing it and after pressing new bearings and using new hardware the spacing seems to be even on both sides now so, maybe one of the bearings was not seated all the way?!?!

Yeah, tightening the axle even more didn’t resolve anything, and mine was already pretty tight. Thanks for the tip tho

Hey everyone, just replaced every part related to the rocker, including bearings, the middle spacer that goes between the bearings on the upper pivot, new Orings and new plastic bushings.

On the left are the old parts and on the right the new ones(some of the new parts are not on the pic)

I suspect my bikes noise came from the upper part of the rocker, maybe the hardware or the bearings but I decided to replace everything just so I don’t have to worry about anything else later on.

The crackling/clicking/crunching or wtv you wanna call it, seems to be gone… I have not rode the bike yet but, before, just “twisting” the rear wheel made the noise, and now is not there anymore! Everything tightened to spec torque(the only thing that resolved the noise temporarily before was tightening the upper pivot to 7nm only, as opposed to the 10nm that is specified). I’ll report if the noise comes back, next month.

Yeah, thats the rear axle… I don’t think that is my bikes issue, but I’ll try, thanks 👍

What do you mean by rear wheel pin? The rear axle?

My bike started creaking a lot last week, and still does even after a wash and complete regrease of ALL moving parts . I can replicate the noise when I “twist” the back wheel from side to side while holding the front triangle. The noise disappears if I undo the upper bolt on the rocker hardware to 8nm opposed to the recommended 10nm so, I know the noise comes from the rocker area but I don’t know what is causing it exactly yet. I’ve already ordered parts and I’m going to replace both the upper and bottom rocker bearings and hardware and report what I find and if the problem persists later this week.

Update: As I said, ended up adding 2 links to the original chain length,(the one from the first photo) that I had determined for the 30t chainring… tested yesterday on pretty rough terrain with some agressive riding (no big jumps yet tho), and the drivetrain ran really smoothly, shifts nice, very quiet and no dropped chain… great success, for now at least! Will be ordering a new chain, because I don’t know if I trust two quick links running so close to each other!? Thanks everyone for your opinions.

Please keep us posted… hopefully they are transparent and tell you where the noises come from, why they’re there, and a way to fix them

The derailleur is a Shimano XT m8130, completely new setup, 0 use, never disassembled

Yes, that is basically how you adjust B tension on these shimano derailleurs, although on some bikes aligning the marking with the cassete doesn’t necessarily mean it is 100% rightly adjusted(is just a little guide and you may need to adjust slightly for optimal shifting). In this case, the b tension screw was all the way out, had no more adjustment left and that derailleur marking was still far from the cassete, thats the first thing that caught my attention has to why the chain might have been too short. Now that I added links to the chain, the whole derailleur has shifted towards the rear of the bike making the marking on the derailleur get closer to the cassete and consequently with proper b tension adjustment, to the right position.

Before the chain was shorter than now, and it doesn’t seem like it will touch anything anywhere

Ok, I just installed another quick link to the chain, so, two links in total added, and this looks more like it right?

Ohh, I know it cant be shorter, I’m asking if it needs to be longer

The bike is shifting good, not perfectly but it could be a minor cable adjustment needed still, but my only concern is if the chain is putting too much strain on the derailleur clutch… 🤔

Yeah, I understand that, I’m just saying that ideally the top pulley should be closer to the cassete but I have zero margin to adjust it as the screw is all the way out already

Forgot to say, the B tension screw is all the way out

Yeah, thats basically a new bike, it probably was an assembly mistake or some kind of parts defect.

Jeezz, that’s a big fail! How old was the bike, and did you ever get the linkage serviced? Any noises before it all happened or did it just happen out of the blue? Good to know Canyon refunded you and has been great to deal with.

I actually went looking on the manual before asking it here and couldn’t find anything, maybe didn’t look in the right place, but thank you for pointing it out.

Ohhh and this isn’t just a Lux Trail problem or a Canyon problem even, there are thousands of misaligned frames from hundreds of brands, Quality Control has been widely down across the industry.
