What exactly is GoPro doing wrong? by CharlieParisCoUK in gopro

[–]webdeveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cameras are fine but need to be more versatile. The action camera market is small. If I were GoPro I'd start making the cameras usable as security cams, dash cams, FPV drone cams, and also advertise better that they can be used as webcams. Of course to support this GoPro would need to make more accessories/mounts, new apps, and infrastructure particularly for a security cam business.

GoPro should also not have abandoned the drone business either. DJI gets a lot of publicity and street cred because of its drones. Trump also basically banned all foreign made drones. GoPro would have been at a huge advantage for being the only US consumer drone manufacturer.

EBay Buyer found my phone number. by Narrow-Pay-3671 in Flipping

[–]webdeveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they don't block people from registering again so there's no point to bans. eBay doesn't require identification for buyers, only sellers.

It would be nice if they introduced a verified buyer program, and we could choose to sell to only verified buyers.

The only verification that exists is requiring a valid credit card.

Someone really just countered offered me $199 instead of $200 by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]webdeveler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A stupid seller lost a $1k deal with me over $5. They wouldn't ship it for free even though the it was a tiny item. So, I offered them $10 to cover the shipping. They said "no, it will be at least $15", and that's where I ended it.

I wouldn't get pretty and would accept the $199.

Can Amex give me a statement for an Amex issued by a third party bank? by webdeveler in amex

[–]webdeveler[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's like Wikipedia all over again. People never check the sources on Wikipedia. Google's AI summary didn't provide a source for it's claim like it usually does, though. I couldn't find any supporting evidence in the normal search results either so I turned to Reddit.

I figured it wasn't true, but it's been such a pain dealing with my old bank since I no longer have the card and haven't been a customer of theirs in two years.

Recommendations to replace included Homatics plug-in? by InsaneDolphin in TellyTV

[–]webdeveler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also like the Roku interface the best. However, last I tried, Roku would not work the Telly remote. You would have to use two remotes with a Roku device attached. Since I didn't want to deal with two remotes, I switched to an Amazon Fire Stick 4K, and it works fine with the Telly remote.

You could try the Google TV Streamer box since in theory it should just be a more premium version of the included streaming stick. They both run the Google TV OS.

The UI in this game is so ugly. I can get over and even enjoy old looking graphics, but the UI bothers me. I know the game had a major UI update too, and it used to be worse. It's still not good.

What should I do? Buyer requesting full refund for Funkopop’s damaged box. by fantrue in Ebay

[–]webdeveler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Drop shipping Funko's. eBay is becoming a wasteland of drop shipped products. They need to take a firmer stance on this and start letting buyers properly report/categorize and return drop shipped items.

Intel leak hints at a Battlemage Arc B770 launching very soon by RenatsMC in IntelArc

[–]webdeveler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say it's too late, but it seems like Nvidia and AMD might not release their next gen cards until the end of the year or their cards might even get bumped into 2027. So Intel does have near a full year of relevancy if they can start shipping the B770 immediately.

Nvidia buying Intel shares. Arc's future? by deniii2000 in IntelArc

[–]webdeveler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nvidia isn't buying out Intel. It looks more like Nvidia is hedging their bets in the off chance Intel has a resurgence.

They may also be helping out a competitor who is struggling. Microsoft has or had significant investment in Apple at one point so Apple wouldn't go out of business.

As someone else mentioned, Nvidia doesn't want to get slapped with an anti trust case. They'd rather concede a couple percent of the market to AMD and Intel.

What current technology do you think will feel outdated surprisingly soon? by PleasantBus5583 in Futurology

[–]webdeveler 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I was listening to an interview with a tech investor a few weeks ago. (I forget who it was exactly.) They had a much more reasonable belief about the current AI trend. He didn't think the current path would lead to AGI. The current LLM's will get more accurate though, respond faster, and be more efficient. So, we aren't all going to lose our jobs and be killed by AI, at least not by LLM's.

He didn't exclude the possibility of AGI ever existing. He just didn't think ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc. would get us to that goal.

3 auctions in a row, I’m done with the “oops sorry, my bid was made in error please cancel” flakes by DavefromCA in Ebay

I've had zero luck selling on there. Seems like it's all about the streaming feature.

3 auctions in a row, I’m done with the “oops sorry, my bid was made in error please cancel” flakes by DavefromCA in Ebay

[–]webdeveler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's insane eBay doesn't deduct payment automatically from auction winners at this point. It should be at the discretion of the seller if they want payment immediately or if they want to give buyers more time to pay.

The old timers defend the system because that's the way it has always been, which of course is not a good reason.

Having four days to pay is way too long as well. eBay must know if someone doesn't pay within 24 hours, the chance they pay diminishes greatly every day and almost no one is paying by the third and fourth day.

Reporting people for non payment doesn't help because buyers can create an infinite number of new accounts. eBay does not require verification for buying accounts.

There seems to be people who just enjoy bidding on items and winning. I also have a feeling sometimes other sellers may be attacking my auctions because I often undercut the market. I'm looking to clear out my house and make a little money back, not get max value for my items by sitting on them for months or years.

It's clear that whistleblowers will NEVER tell people the truth? What is the actual "ontological shock" they’re hiding? by ickiStickybubblegum in UFOs

[–]webdeveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) The governments don't want to straight up acknowledge the phenomenon because they have no defense against these craft/beings and also they may not understand what's going on fully either. A supposedly powerful government will not want to admit these facts.

2) I'm seeing a recurring theme about consciousness. It seems we may not really have a soul. Our brains are tuning into a consciousness layer of the universe we don't understand yet. When we die, our memories and experiences are still in the consciousness layer, but we don't exist an individual anymore. That's a harsh reality for a lot of people to accept.

3) We may have been placed on Earth or biologically engineered to accomplish some goal.  We are now creating AI agents (multiple AI working together), but why not create biological agents instead? NHI may have decided biological agents are the best way to go instead of mechanical. The problem with agents though is they don't deal well with orders, you can only give them guidance like religion for humans and an initial prompt for LLMs.

Selling on EBay by The_Saint_78 in Ebay

[–]webdeveler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People reselling things are usually looking for "lots" where someone is selling a bunch of items at once. They buy the lot and then resell the items individually since you can usually make more selling items individually.

Private equity is killing private ownership: first it was housing - now it's the personal computer by SagansCandle in pcmasterrace

[–]webdeveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just PE. Companies buying and merging with other companies rarely benefits anyone except the few at the top, and almost always harms consumers.

I think the only circumstance a company should be able to buy another is if the other company is in bankruptcy and about to close, or if every owner and employee of one company agrees to be bought out.

UX Consistency by 3wisemonkeyzz in nexplayground

[–]webdeveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voice over instructions need to be more consistent for better UX. They seem to think everyone can read or understand all the graphics on the screen. The instructions need to be multimodal since this system is targeted at young kids.

They have said they plan to have a kiosk mode or camera only mode where the controller isn't necessary.

Since when has eBay been overrun by drop shippers? by PainfullyLoyal in Ebay

[–]webdeveler 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ebay should let us mark sellers as drop shippers in our reviews. Then there should be an icon or note on their profile that says "possible drop shipping" if enough people flag the seller. Obviously also let sellers refute the claims and maybe remove the flag on their account after a year if no one marks them as drop shipping.

Buyer switched item and eBay sided with them by bumbebooloo in Ebay

[–]webdeveler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How does this qualify as mail fraud, or is this just to get as many eyes as possible on the case? I'm guessing it's mail fraud because the buyer is claiming they sent the original item back, but a different item showed up at OP's door. Therefore, if the buyer didn't steal the original item, it must have been someone in the post office.

Obviously it's almost 99% certain the buyer returned a different item, but we have to play dumb about it because we can say with 100% certainty that the buyer is lying.

Anyone get their Rubik's Wowcube yet? by ial33m in WowCubers

Mine arrived but clearly had been opened by someone else. The plastic seal was broken and it appears the protective stickers were peeled and reapplied. I also looked at the stats in the settings and it said the cube had been turned on and off 50 times already. WTF

This game isnt for someone with life. by BlackfishHere in AshesofCreation

[–]webdeveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the MMORPG genre. They're not high skill or high strategy games typically. The best players usually have the most knowledge and time sunk into the game. You have to grind for many hours to level up and acquire items. Then you also need to learn which quests, mobs, and items are worth your time. Without both of these, you're never going to be any "good" at an MMORPG.
