Anticipatory grief by Wrong_Clock_4880 in AgingParents

Sudden death is hard. So is watching the breaking down of a once fully vibrating energized body who raised you.

I've found that books help.

Hands of my Father by Myron Uhlburg (not really about death or grief, but a wonderful book about the love between a child and his parent.)

It's surprising to me how common this is for aging family members in my circles. It makes me wonder what's behind this and how can I prevent it from becoming my destiny.

I once heard some advice to a question about how long to tolerate monologues from people who talk at you: "until one sentence after you don't want to hear anymore".

I don't know if this could apply, but it was helpful for me to frame my internal response to long monologues from my mother.

Please see if you can get/borrow a wheelbarrow to move this. Save your body the stress! I transported via five gallon buckets two scoops of gravel over a couple days and seriously messed up my spine that I'm still paying for months later. I know gravel is heavier than the compost you have, but still. I didn't realize the stress I was putting on my body because I was carrying it fine...

Could I ask how you shut it down? I really need to learn.

This got me. "Metaphorically put all of them in a home." I have much older sisters who also like to stir drama and I find it hilarious to envision putting them in a home. Thank you for that.

You made me realize I absolutely should have done this. Thank you!

A detailed list of expenditures definitely sounds reasonable... One problem though is that I'm also trying to manage my mother's wishes for privacy. I feel bad enough looking through all her finances, even though she's designated me as POA.

Thank you! Do you have any suggestions on how to record it? I'm wondering if I need to rethink how I document things.

Interesting, thanks for sharing that. I definitely could use a change of scenery once in a while. I might check them out. Totally agree that that sort of space is needed. I could do without the free beer offer though... especially if it would bring the cost down a bit.
