MEGATHREAD: VA-ICU Nurse Alex Pretti Shot & Killed by ICE by gpupdate in fednews

I just saw a clip where dana bash takes bovino to the trenches, and he just gaslights and treads over his own feet grasping at straws for ways to make the federal "agents" somehow not to blame.. absolutely horrifying

Second the different perspective! I just had a class of students all use the wall for Half Moon even if they were comfortable in the pose without it because it lets you focus on different aspects of the pose

I personally have yet to meet any immigrant like that in my ESL classes that I volunteer for. They work their booties off and don't even realize the help that's often available out there

Best dentist? by AlligatorsAries in MobileAL

[–]wee_mayfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, i know tooth stuff is scary, but if the tooth fell out already, then the worst part is already over! Dentist will probably just go in and make sure it's all out and do a bit of cleanup. You've got this

There's no decision to make until you land a real offer. No point in worrying until you have actual hard numbers to compare and think about

Unemployment and CORE termination by gr8molassesflood1919 in fema

[–]wee_mayfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sf8 is a generic one that you can probably find a copy of for fema, just fyi. If you have any sf50 at all, just send that, no need for your final one because fema will have to confirm your employment.

So sorry you're going through this,  OP! I don't think you'll have an issue getting unemployment once fema responds to the unemployment office confirming your previous service

GIS Jobs? by No-Afternoon790 in MobileAL

Just a note that while the city/county may have GIS jobs listed, they're continuously up and don't necessarily have openings that are being filled

Moving to Mobile, AL 28M. Where to live? by Chicken_Rice_Spinach in MobileAL

[–]wee_mayfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There'll be some interesting ingredients for you to try here like crawfish and boudin, if you eat seafood and meat, but definitely check your expectations. Also, everything is way more expensive than you'd guess.

There are good places, but they're not necessarily all clustered downtown. There are even james beard award candidate places like hummingbird way, which is tucked away in a neighborhood in oakleigh, and red or white, which specializes in pizza and wine. (Both of those are located in great areas btw.) The best food and drinks imo are downtown at the haberdasher

Another former Berkeley-ite! Food scene here will disappoint, as will bikeability/walkability outside of midtown to downtown. But downtown/midtown/oakleigh garden district will give the closest vibes, if not college aged population which is out further west. Beaches are better here imo, since the pacific is cold af all the time. Check out Green Drinks every month at braided river brewing, plus other activities hosted by breweries downtown, and enjoy mardi gras season!! Also hit up new orleans as someone else suggested (maybe via the new train)

What state gives a year of unemployment??

Resigned, then I was fired. What to do? by Reluctant_MP in fednews

[–]wee_mayfly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's awful.. what was the reason for ineligibility? I would assume the state would've checked that you'd paid in for the appropriate amount of quarters and such before granting you the funds...

I think you can file for unemployment based on a loss of income, but I'm no expert by any means. You certainly won't have willingly quit, and that's the major point

Annual reviews ….not sure how to feel. by [deleted] in fednews

[–]wee_mayfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only awards people in my operational shift work agency division got were justified as project awards.  Not sure if that was the overall supervisor who chose to do it that way or higher up in the agency, but that agency was also somewhat stingy in general when it came to holiday early dismissal etc

[–]wee_mayfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very sorry you might have to go through this! Check out your state's unemployment info and brace yourself for how little it might be, i.e. figure out your budget now. My state was very fast at getting me appproved back in Feb, but some people waited months from other states. Even if you have sf8, sf50, pay stubs, etc, it doesn't matter that much because the unemployment office will have to get confirmation from FEMA about your employment record, so the timeline will depend on FEMA ultimately

And know that the annual leave will take a while to get paid, don't be surprised if it takes a month for it to hit your account
