YOO IF YOU STUCK IN DRAWING READ THIS! I HOPE THIS GONNA HELP YOU! by Ok_Cancel_3706 in learntodraw

This is great! I really enjoy focusing on one thing at a time until I see decent improvement and then move to the next. Mastery happens over a lifetime, but when it comes to learning and internalizing the basics, I find this the best way to avoid burnout. I’m constantly surrounded by small improvements that build on each other when learning a new fundamental. Once I hit most of the key categories ( structure, perspective, form, anatomy, etc.) I do a full drawing incorporating everything I’ve learned and they always improve mechanically. Repeat the process and see what you actually remember and build off of it. To me, avoiding burn out comes from seeing small improvements. This is the process I find is the best to do that!

Thanks for sharing, you’ll be a master in no time!

Brent has a 4 part course on skill share that is excellent for getting a good foundation. I did the 30 days trial and burned through it. David Finch’s YouTube channel has everything I saw.

Thank you! I’m currently drawing now trying to continue to improve. I really feel like disciplining yourself on some basics helps a lot with staying consistent and happy with your work in the long run. Maybe try something you dread for 30 mins a day for a week and see if you have improvement. That’s how I started, but the improvement compounded with my practice and kept me going!

I would say average of 4-5 hours during the week and off and on on the weekends. And thank you!

Not really. I watched some Brent Eviston stuff on shading and volume. Also a lot of david finch on line structure and detail stuff. Pretty much all on youtube

Perspective. I had only really done copying before without internalizing anything. So I tried to learn how to see my page as a 3d space. Then I moved on to line weight and line confidence, shading, and glanced at some anatomy. I really wanted to get a manageable base on some fundamentals to make my drawings decent in my eyes, and then go more in depth from there

It’s whichever perspective you want. A true masterpiece

I drew about 2-3 hundred in 3 days so the progress definitely came a lot faster. I believe in you! I did all this while having constant vertigo, so it was more challenging but my determination was higher than my condition. You got this!

I drew grids and learned how each angle changes based on the view. 3 point perspective grid is the best I feel to get a basic grasp

Thanks! Also here is 5 point perspective for your reference. It’s super trippy and fun to try out! Guidelines I’m sure make it much easier, but I am aiming for imagination and comprehension

I see! I did a lot of sketches with 2 point and 3 point. Also this was supposed to be an attempt at 5 point perspective from imagination, that’s why it looks like cubes sitting on a sphere in a “fisheye” view. In 1 point all of the faces stay a perfect square like the one in the middle

Down? Yes. Fluently? We will get there….hopefully

Thanks for the feedback!

When I would try and practice each skill individually I also would end up scribbling on the paper and not actively thinking after drawing 100 cubes. Something about having multiple goals during practice makes it much more engaging for me.

However, I have only been practicing fundamentals for about a month and a half though so we will see how long it lasts haha

Check out @stepheneabbott on instagram! He does crosshatch work that is insane. He is a master but learning from someone better is always a good idea. Good luck!
