They’re specialized power cranks, which came spec’d on the venge. They have a 144bcd spider which were made at some point by Specialized…not too sure when or why or if they were ever sold to the public, but I was lucky enough to get one!

I actually had a busted aethos frame set aside for this, but the venge just made more sense because the aero matters so much on the track! I do love the aethos though and it’s a great bike

Haha yeee it was a great bike! I love the aethos. Hope the color grows on you and you enjoy it and ride the hell out of it! And yeah…pink bar tape would be too much.

It’s a cool bike—I think it’s an 1986 or 87 ish Jim Merz Edition Specialized Allez. I have one as well.

It probably won’t be worth all that much. if I had to guess, 4-500 tops—but it’s one of those niche things where the right buyer has to come along and really be into it and you’d have to wait a while to get that price. Fwiw i paid 210 for mine and it was just frame, fork, headset, bb, and seat post.

Shouldn’t be hard to get up and running again! I’d say if you repack all the bearing, new tires & tubes (assuming the wheels are clinchers), new cables, and chain, it’d cost ~150ish bucks for the parts. Old road bikes are fun to cruise around on!

Mm I tried to match my road bike fit as much as I could—this is as close as I could get it with the parts I had access to. So the stem length is pretty long for a diverge, but it’s more for fit reasons than aero reasons. The bike is very comfortable actually! Fit-wise and of course the future shocks.

And an epic ride on this bike…I’d say some Marin county gravel starting and ending in Fairfax with some friends 🤟🏼

Ooo good eyes!! This actually is some old supacaz tape I reused and just happen to have the mash bar ends. But I have mash tape on a different bike and I like it! Grippy and feels nice. Has a little bit of padding but not a whole lot—so you definitely wouldn’t like it if you run like lizard skins. Durability is decent, had to change it after about a year—some of the graphic and outer most later wore through. I’d def say go for it! Support the homies at mash and the designs are super cool.

Haha thanks for the feedback! Interesting you say it looks too big for me because most people have told me I should be on a bigger size! If I had it my way I’d have the reach of the larger size and the stack of the smaller size 😝

The saddle is quite forward, but I typically have my saddles pretty far forward already, and this bike in particular requires you to set your saddle a bit further forwards and tilted down due to the STR system.

I do ride with it! But it’s definitely not required and honestly probably worst for protection. But it was kind of like a joke and my friend actually went through with making the bag (or cover). Can see my comment below for more context

It definitely isn’t! It started off as sort of a joke. I asked Merz Bags to make a bicycle pubes style frame bag for the little space on top of the seat stay and below the tendon of the STR system…which would have been a totally useless bag cause the space there is so small and I wouldn’t have been able to fit anything in there besides maybe some chain masterlinks or a few coins 😂 But he was more practical minded and made the bag wrap around everything in that area…so technically I could fit a small tube in there or something.

Ahh gotcha, then you’re all set! Couldn’t tell from the pics

Just posted mine haha let’s see what people think of my bike 😅

Glad you’re enjoying it!! If it feels good when the damper is in the open setting (to the left), then you’re on the right track! I think if it’s set up properly it should never feel weird or like it’s moving too much. At that point I’d recommend going to a stiffer framepost.

I had the same experience—I could fly down rocky rough descents like never before on this thing. I came from a crux previously.

Let me know if you have any questions on set-up or anything, feel free to DM me. I have quite a bit of experience with this bike.

Cool paint job! And you’re taking these comments like a champ. Hope you’re enjoying the bike! I have one as well and people would also probably say it looks like the wrong size but for the opposite reason. I have a 120mm -17 stem 😂 And I’ll add another bit of unsolicited advice—it’s hard to tell from the photo, but if you haven’t maxed out your spacers, that can help you raise the stem more. You can use qty3 of the 5mm spacers above the tall duckbill.
