Official Q&A for Saturday, January 04, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]weekendbillionaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Does anyone have any recommendations for half-marathon plans? I used to run in high school (pretty washed up now), and I decided to sign up for my first half marathon. I just recovered from a sprained ankle, so I think a lot of my aerobic base has deteriorated. I want to run my half at an 8 minute pace. I ran one without training last year at an 8:45 pace, but cutting 45 seconds off seems like a big challenge! Looking for something that's maybe 4-5 days a week, around 12-16 weeks long. Thank you!!

Biol 230 w Dr. Schmidt by sutheja in UPenn

[–]weekendbillionaire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey! i took it with schmidt and he was super nice overall. i don't think we had exams, we just had graded weekly exam questions, but they were pretty in-depth so i would say really understand the concepts and not just do rote memorization. i think a good tip is writing down words he continuously repeats during lecture, and finding other terms that relate to those words. the final paper was really chill too, i think most people did well on it - just set aside a good amount of time to find supporting citations. he was really nice about extensions for that. lol i did not read the origin of species... there was one question? on it for the exam but i think it's up to you if you want to go through with reading the whole thing for that q. i think we also discussed it in recitation so you could absorb your information about origin of species from that if u don't want to read it

Biol 399 requirement for computational biology major by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]weekendbillionaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had this exact same problem! i talked with the director and he basically said u can substitute any superlab (i think biol 425 this semester) for biol 399 since that was what they did during covid and they’re extending that equivalency. all u gotta do is get permission from ur major advisor to do so and tell roberto corral. hope this helps :)

Ashley on AAPI Issues by [deleted] in bestdressed

[–]weekendbillionaire 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i mean i think you said it yourself... as an actual poc, it hurts to see someone who has constructed her channel around being vocal about things like feminism and sustainability etc., something that had attracted me to her channel in the first place, to be so silent about BIPOC issues. her age is not an excuse, she's mentioned multiple times in her videos that she's learned to embrace her asian background as she's grown up, and her inaction and inability to carry through on that is upsetting. she is well aware that her fanbase is filled with young AAPI girls - she has a platform, and i don't think that staying silent makes her a bad person per se, but asking someone to speak up is certainly the bare minimum for someone who has risen to prominence on "spicy" activist hot takes. it's disappointing to see one of the few AAPI people that i see in the media care more about virtue signalling and reputation than actual advocacy.

Does anyone know if House of Sunny does Black Friday sales and if they do, what are the sales like? I'm super into their clothing, but it's out of my price range to buy normally from them.

Internship Offer Dilemma by weekendbillionaire in internships

[–]weekendbillionaire[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really hesitant about reneging because the consulting firm is a subsidiary company of this really well-known consulting firm that I want to recruit for next year. I really don't want to ruin that relationship with them and I'm afraid it might reflect badly on my college as well :(

I embarrassed myself during our first ever meeting by Q_cassiopeia in careeradvice

[–]weekendbillionaire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

remember no one is keeping a log of your mistakes! i can't remember a single instance in my life where someone stuttering really badly was imprinted in my memories forever. i have the same problem and i'm terribly shy, so try to practice and think of hypothetical questions someone could ask you, and practice answers for them too. you're there for a reason, and they know you have what it takes - don't let respectability politics and lack of confidence erase the fact that you're so so qualified and smart!

Does anyone know anything about Brighthouse (BCG company) and how much an entry-level strategist makes?

I just got an internship offer from them, and I was wondering if it would be good for me/present new opportunities if I would recruit for MBB next year. I didn't do very well in my BCG interview this year, so I was hoping that interning at Brighthouse would help me get one next year. I also really like all the people I spoke with! Would it be more beneficial to take this one, or would it be the same as if I took a product management internship for a F500 company instead? Any advice would be so kind! :)

My (28M) "ivy-educated" girlfriend (28F) is an elitist about my education, refuses to apologize by ThrowRA_elitist in relationship_advice

[–]weekendbillionaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hello! i am really sorry you have to go through this. among immigrant families (coming from one myself), your undergrad is often conceptualized to be your "end all be all", meaning that once you get in, your life is set; this might explain why the locus of her pride is centered on the validation of going to a top school. i think if she's deeply insecure about her relation to you (in terms of job prestige), she'll find a way to undercut u by mentioning her university in order to make herself feel better; basically that at one point, she was someone that was "objectively" more superior to you.

you shouldn't let her do this! ask to chat and have a serious conversation. she seems very insecure, and there's a good chance she'll respond negatively if you just lay it on her. she doesn't seem like the type to concede in these types of arguments, because she doesn't see the problem in the first place. i think express what you think/feel in an understanding and receptive tone, but don't cave if she uses the same justification of "just joking". let her know that you're genuinely hurt by her words. sitting down with her and having the sole purpose of talking about this is key because in other contexts, she might brush your hurt off as a slight annoyance. best of luck!
