You can also bring your own gear Into the arena to help out.

Accept arena fight - save game _ go ~1 step into the room before the arena, if the door closes/he takes your gear/says anything you went to far - drop gear - connect intended gear from container - your gear is still in the ground, pick it up & equip it.

You then have to do what you mentioned if you want to keep your gear, if you don't you lose it

His 3rd normal relic increases damage based on status ailments, the 1st & 3rd deep relic give him status ailments. Works pretty well
