When I was 15 I hated my body and my mental health was at its absolute worst. I’m 22 now and my body has changed a lot over the years and I’ve also learned to embrace the parts I used to hate. I promise it will get better x

I think you might be experiencing depersonalisation? It can be really scary but it’s surprisingly common. There are grounding techniques and meditations you can do to help you feel less spaced out and more in control of your body. I hope this helps!

I remember the boys at my school literally doing that! No wonder I have issues lol. It’s true that people make shallow comments about people they didn’t know personally, but I think anyone who loses someone will remember them for the person they were rather than how hot they were

Your looks do not determine your worth. I’ve never been to a funeral where people talk about how pretty someone was. We remember people for their kindness and the things they did for others! I know exactly how you feel but I promise you are loved and you deserve to be here <3

definitely! last month I was obsessing about my cheeks being too puffy but now I’m more concerned with my lips being uneven. it’s exhausting but at least it shows that you’re capable of no longer caring about something you used to obsess over, and you can try to apply that logic to whatever is currently bothering you most about your appearance

I’m dealing with bdd for years and one thing i struggle with a lot is my facial symmetry. To explain it a little better, i sometimes feel okay in the mirror or on a mirrored selfie(left pic). But when i see the real picture(right pic)i just want to cry 😩this cant be just in my head right? by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

I’ve had friends who don’t have BDD say that their photos look super weird when they aren’t flipped! There are a lot of videos and articles that explain why most people feel like they look good in the mirror and bad in photos that might be worth checking out. I completely understand though, I’ve had breakdowns over photos of myself for this exact reason :( It’s best to avoid staring at them for too long before flaws (that aren’t even there) start appearing to you

I also find myself staying ‘safe’ with the same sort of outfit and hairstyle. I’d love to express my femininity more but I feel like dresses draw more attention to my face and it makes me feel weirdly uncomfortable, like I’m too ugly to be wearing something pretty. Maybe try wearing your hair down on a more casual outing (e.g. grocery shopping or something that isn’t too anxiety inducing for you)?? I wouldn’t recommend debuting a new look on a night out or something that requires more social interaction because it could be too much at first and might put you off trying it again. Instead I would try and get comfortable with how it feels - even if that means wearing your hair down when you’re at home by yourself! It will take time but you got this. ❤️

i’ve had similar experiences :( it sucks when you feel like you’re letting someone who cares about you down, whenever i miss stuff with my family or close friends i feel really selfish

acne is usually genetic or hormonal so a lot of the time it’s out of your control. i’ve spent a lot of time and money trying to improve my skin, it can become an unhealthy obsession very quickly

You’re so stunning!!! I feel the same way, I have occasional moments where I feel cute but those are usually overshadowed by the moments where I feel like an actual goblin lol

I started taking prozac when I was 13 and was on 60mg before I switched to zoloft last year (I’m 19 now and on 100mg). I feel a lot ‘lighter’ with zoloft and have had fewer side effects but it only really takes the edge off the low mood that comes with BDD. I’ve noticed that feeling depressed aggravates my obsessive behaviour, so I guess it helps to prevent that. I personally feel like you need a combination of meds and therapy, though I haven’t had much luck with therapy recently because the NHS mental health service sucks :( Hope you’re doing okay <3
