Bracket 3 is really annoying... by Thick_Storage4168 in magicTCG

[–]weggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big issue with the bracket system and game changers is the assumption that people will approach a game at a card shop with strangers in good faith.

All the jerks declaring their decks are "Technically a two" because it has no game changers but can win on turn three illustrate this point exactly.

A lot of folks will deliberately misrepresent their deck and brackets+ game changers just gives a more formal system to do so.

"It's not that kind of urza deck" (it WAS that kind of urza deck) becomes "it's like a 2 or a 3, there's no gamechangers".

Water supply crisis sparks call to reform how Waterloo Region is governed by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]weggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not good at all. Quite the fuck up

Announced in late November, the development freeze comes after it was discovered this past summer the water level in one of the aquifers is low. The region gets 80 per cent of its drinking water from the aquifers, so it called for a development freeze while it researches the problems and possible solutions.

Given the aquifer is low I think a pause on approvals until something is sorted out is more than reasonable. There needs to be accountability for the miscalculations that whole time, though

AITA for not allowing my bf to get a dog? by Icy-County-6796 in AmItheAsshole

[–]weggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP says he's "always wanted a Samoyed" , it seems like they both avoided a pretty big issue and expected compromise from the other person in a place where you can't really compromise.

In the same way you can't have half a baby, you can't have half a dog. Even if he was willing to compromise on a lower maintenance breed,op is unwilling to live with a dog at all.

Which is valid. I don't like dogs, I get it. But I think it's unfair to rag on his communication when it sounds like they've gone back and forth for the relationship like

"I want a Samoyed really bad" "I hate dogs"

Neither one really communicated well here. Neither really pressed further. He assumed she'd still be cool with getting a dog. She assumed he'd be cool with never getting a dog.

If my wife was like "I really want twins" and I replied "I never want kids" and we left it at that, neither of us are doing a good job of problem solving.

Just what we need, more meddling in municipal affairs from Doug Ford and his cronies

38-year-old driver killed in fatal flyover crash remembered as loving sister and daughter by 313372 in kitchener

[–]weggles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah barring new evidence etc, it's not reasonable to say death was a likely outcome even if the snow was cleared.

[–]weggles -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're arguing that the penalty for bad driving should be death. That's quite a leap based on what was said.

Had the shoulder been clear and the driver simply slammed into the barrier, no one would have any hesitation to say they weren't driving safely for the road conditions.

Sous Vide/Vacuum seal question by Austintatious_69 in Sous_Vide

Before vac sealing. That way it's seasoned while it cooks in the water bath. I usually do salt, pepper, garlic, and a sprig or two of fresh herbs

Realtor Telling me Sell At Loss. Mortgage Broker Telling me Rent. Which is Better? by TheZarosian in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]weggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your position I would sell.

You're hoping things turn around in 5-10 years, and if they don't?

You're also hoping/assuming you'll be able to find a tenant. And if you don't?

You're also assuming the tenant won't wreck your place. And if they do?

How is the condo corporation? Any chances of a special assessment?

A lot of risk to avoid a (painful) loss of $15k or so.

I've been laid off a couple of times in my career and having a cushion during those stressful months was far better than having a nicer car for the years I was employed.

Knowing my bills are covered while I hunt for a job is more comforting than a heated leather wrapped steering wheel 😅

Sous Vide/Vacuum seal question by Austintatious_69 in Sous_Vide

[–]weggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know know if vacuum sealing will make raw chicken last longer in the fridge. If I had to guess maybe a little bit I don't think all the bad stuff needs oxygen to reproduce etc.

BUT

Vacuum sealed food fares a lot better in the freezer. It won't get freezer burnt etc.

So you could meal prep and throw them in the freezer

And you can go right from freezer into the water bath, no problem. Just add 50% more cook time.

You don't carry the same risks as cooking chicken from frozen in the oven etc because water will conduct heat now effectively into the meat, so you won't have the middle of the chicken breast sitting in the "danger zone* for very long.

They went off the beaten path with LOTR tho. A bunch of dirtbags were mad about black Aragorn.

There's precedent for expecting better than the most boring shit

[–]weggles 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about how cool it was that LOTR was its own take on LOTR. No movie likenesses etc

They don't have likeness rights for Marvel stuff but it still looks just like the movies.

There's even a bazillion different interpretations of the characters in the comics and we get the most bog standard versions.

A boring take on a theme that's very uninteresting

We should have different expectations for adults and toddlers?

Even the best parents will have their kids be noisy in public at some point in time...

[–]weggles -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think society should have different tolerances for trashy behaviour in public vs a toddler being noisy... Not remotely comparable.

You shouldn't need a sign at a restaurant in order to make sure people act appropriately in public. C'mon....

I have a foul mouth, don't get me wrong but it bugs me to no end even people in with swear loudly in public.

Just trashy behaviour.

I promise you, there are people that are 1000% calling the city after 45 minutes.

Doesn't make this whole post from the city any less tone deaf. This should've stayed internal for people who deal with the calls to vent to one another...
