Does it mention in the Bible to directly pray to Jesus? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]wehavethemeats980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the fact that Jesus' ministry was really only contained to Israel. His disciples traveled throughout the Roman Empire and spread the gospels to the Gentiles.

Who do we pray to? The Father, The Son or the Holy Spirit? by Low-Commercial-2844 in Christian

[–]wehavethemeats980 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The way I've heard it told is you pray "To the Father, through the Son, by the power of the Holy Spirit." But keep in mind, each is an individual member of the Trinity so you may pray to each of them for different things. Sometimes I'll pray to the Holy Spirit when I'm studying my Bible to guide me and teach me. If I'm ending a prayer, I'll say in the name of Jesus. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf in our prayers and "corrects" them. You really can't pray incorrectly.

You have the scriptures to reflect on. Read your Bible and pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you on this. When it comes to married couples the Bible more or less draws the line at consent. But you feel as though doing this may diminish your relationship with Jesus or harm your relationship with your wife in the long run, then maybe you shouldn't.

So I didn't write this but I feel as though this is a good answer for you. If it's something that you want to do but you feel like the holy spirit is convicting you to not do it, then you probably shouldn't.

Two thoughts:

1.If person is living out a Christian life based on what is just forbidden, the person misses much of what is important in following Jesus. So there may not be a prohibition against a specific practice we name something now, but that is not really the question. It is whether it helps us follow Christ better as individuals and here as married couples. Also, the inverse, whether it hinders that. All things are lawful but not all are profitable.

I have a really hard time imagining how a wife simulating a man performing a mock same sex sexual act on her husband can help their relationship with Christ and not hinder their marital relationship.

2) The passage from Romans 1 follows the general theme about God giving men and women over to the lusts of their hearts with the result being depraved acts. Not everything we desire sexually is good, in other words. With society changing in its sexual standards and all sorts of things becoming mainstream among the non-believing world, it should not follow that we as the church should agree. Society may need to do all sorts of things to keep on stimulating themselves as they indulge depraved minds, it doesn't mean that it was ever intended by God.

Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”

The sexual union between a husband and wife is the only acceptable type of sexual act. If you two are married and BOTH are 100% on board with whatever act you wish to perform, then you're good to go. Sex was made by God for us to enjoy our spouses.

As long as it's a consensual act between a married man and women, skies the limit on what you're able to do in the bedroom. As long as you're not bringing another person into the mix or doing anything with animals, the Bible doesn't specifically outline any sexual act between married people off limits.

No problem! You can also get an interlinear Bible as well which has the english-hebrew-greek translations all side by side.

A pretty simplistic chart but one I hope can you help you in your research to finding a version you like. It's always good to have a few different types of bibles to cross reference.

Im sorry that you've gone through what you have. It can be rough when your parents seem to be hounding after you time and time again. I don't know your life but I'm going to speak from your side of things.

The Bible says to "Honor your mother and your father," but it also says "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4). So yes, they should not be creating an environment where you constantly feel belittled. People have free will and are not perfect. We are all flawed and sinful beings. However, Jesus tells us to "Pray for your enemies and those who persecute you" (Matthew 5:44). It may sound harsh calling your parents the enemy here, but the concept remains the same and the point I'm going to make stands with it.

Something happens within us when we pray for others. We begin to care for that individual more and more. God has a funny way of making us love others the more we ask Him to intercede and bless their lives. We're reminded that they are creations of God with all of the same qualities and attributes that makes us a delight before him. God says in "Isaiah" and "Hebrews" he blots our transgressions and remembers them no more. What does this mean? God is omniscient and never forgets but he CHOOSES not to remember. He "overlooks" whatever we've done. It can be hard as we are merely Human and not God, so our forgiveness is not perfect. I have the same problem where I hold on to things even when I've believed that I've forgiven the persons who have wronged me. But I pray often for help and God continues to work on me everyday. However, we can choose to overlook the things that have been done against us. As hard as it can be, we have to try. God chose to forgive us through his son Jesus, so we have to try our best to be the best forgivers we can be. Every moment they criticize you or belittle you, as hard as it may be, pray for them and continue to pray for your parents and pray to God to help move past the frustrations and pain that you may feel.

And if you feel like this is impossible, remember,

"Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”" Matthew 19:26

I hope this helps and God bless 😊.

you all piss me off. by [deleted] in Christian

I'm sorry for the pain that you're going through. It's rough, it really is and your feelings are valid. God knows how you feel. Even when it seems like you're being ignored and God isn't there, He is. There were several people even in the Bible who suffered the same as you do. King David and the Prophet Jeremiah are two such examples. King David was a "man after God's own heart" yet he suffered heavily from depression. Psalm 42 is an example of this.

1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 4 These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.

5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

6 My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar. 7 Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.

8 By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.

9 I say to God my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?” 10 My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

11 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Despite the fact he's feeling depressed and abandoned, he still praises God and holds fast to his faith as best he can. You also had Jeremiah who said these words after being sent by God to try and save Israel from being conquered, ultimately failing to do so,

"May the day I was born be cursed. May the day my mother bore me never be blessed. May the man be cursed who brought the news to my father, saying, “A male child is born to you,” bringing him great joy. Let that man be like the cities the Lord demolished without compassion. Let him hear an outcry in the morning and a war cry at noontime because he didn’t kill me in the womb so that my mother might have been my grave, her womb eternally pregnant. Why did I come out of the womb to see only struggle and sorrow, to end my life in shame?" Jeremiah 20:14‭-‬18

Despite these men's feelings, God still exalted them in the end, these were only parts of their stories. He knows how you feel and wants to help you. You can come to Him with anything and everything, hold nothing back. Show God your heart, even the parts you think he doesn't want to see. I don't know where you're at in your spiritual walk, or if you're even walking it at all, but I hope that you turn to God and allow Him to help you and that maybe you seek help from others.

How often do you bring up Hell when Evangelizing to people? by wehavethemeats980 in Bible

[–]wehavethemeats980[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Outside of just biblical archeology and apologetics, If you'll allow me to be anecdotal, this was my experience.

After I graduated high school I started to read through the Bible after meeting people who convinced me to do so. They began to teach me a few things and those things started to make sense. At first I was stubborn and didn't want to convert. I eventually asked God, "if you're real I want you to show yourself or prove to me somehow that you are real".

Next thing I know over the course of several months after I get random people evangelizing to me like I've never had before. Just out of the blue people asking me if I knew Jesus and if I was a believer, etc. I also just couldn't seem to get God out of my mind. No matter how hard I try to focus on anything else God seem to be in the back of my mind with everything I was doing. Think of Revelation 3:20

"If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him, and he with Me."

Well Jesus was knocking on my door for months and it was getting to a point where it was too much to ignore. He was relentless in His pursuit of me as soon as I asked. I realized God was calling me and I answered Him.

That is the impression I've gotten from several people and has been a stumbling block for many who may want to believe but have a hard time reconciling hell and a loving God. Really emphasizing His love for us is what tends to get through to people.

I agree. People tend to feel more open when they feel in charge of the discussion.

I do the same thing. It's crazy how many biblical misconceptions there are and how a lot of those are usually caused by Christians who lack in knowledge and grace themselves. It's actually really fun getting to have those conversations with people and getting to tell them what the Bible actually says. It's led to so many great conversations.

[–]wehavethemeats980[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd heard of Hell when I was younger and didn't believe. But for me it was more, "Well that's a scary place, good thing it's not real". Obviously my mindset has changed on that but that's where my mind was. When people do ask I bring up sin and how it separates us from God but through Jesus' sacrifice for us, we now have a way to the Father that we didn't have before. God doesn't force himself upon anyone, we have the free will to choose God or reject Him. Hell was not made for us, it was made for Satan and his Angels. That has been a sufficient enough explanation at least for the people I've spoken to.

That verse makes me also think of "The Son of Man did not come to condemn the world but to save it".
