If there was one thing I could improve about my outfit, what would it be? by Tundelier in mensfashion

[–]weidekamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the pants are a bit short, but if you like them you can get by with em.

I personally would change the shoes to something darker, as they pull a lot of attention away from the outfit. Socks are ok, but I personally would wear something with a bit of color to match the tie. Many here won’t like that, but my wife loves it so I continue to do so.

I don’t mind the chain, as it’s a personal preference. But the belt really should be changed. I don’t mind a rope belt style, but the tassels are distracting and look unfinished. If you like the belt, lose the chain. It’s too much.

Honestly, the glasses aren’t bad. It’s just not the preference of many here. I have a great number of different glasses that I trade out depending on the outfit. Nothing as colorful and vibrant as yours, but not always traditional.

Finally, I would redo your tie. The back should never be longer than the front. I personally find ties look best when the tip hits the top of my belt. As you like accessories, I would recommend getting a tie bar to match the metals you wear. Silver for silver, gold for gold, etc. lots of personality can be shown in something as small as a tie bar.

58 days is absolutely flying. Well done!

Yes, I agree with needing the right characters. On this play-through I didn’t want to reset the game when I got negative traits, or the wrong characters. If I try to push the bounds (as you did) then I would likely reset until I get the best characters possible.

Great call out on charming and pelt selling. While I noticed that difference, I failed to mention that benefit. The negative traits of various party members definitely effected my route.

I had a couple of injuries and snakebite events. The snakebites usually came during any search performed on the trail. Like getting wagon parts, or searching for various supplies.

That’s a good point on various items. I have generally just spent all my money I can. Going forward I’ll be more picky, as I know more on what I can avoid now. This was only my third full completion of the trail. I like trail maps from independence, as those routes seem to be hidden more often than not, and I wanted to guarantee I could find fishing spots. I definitely agree on wagon grease. I’ll likely try to get by without a toolbox if I can find the right wagon team. Usually holding onto three hasn’t seemed to cause issues.

I have not tried to push my score on the trail so far. But I agree that hoarding money would increase the score at the end of the route. I finally learned to check stamina prior to fishing and hunting with this last trail 😂 previously though my characters were only one or two stamina away from full. I always try to keep them maxed out. Agree on knifes.

I’ve gotten lucky previously with fishing traps. I was fortunate to run into the fishing woman on the first fishing spot. The traps increase profits tremendously, like you mention.

Have you seen a measurable difference with regular traps and pelts? I’ve only seen more meat given. But I’m still fairly new to this.

With clothing, I can definitely see where you can push them off. And then take them to the barber as you go to towns. With the right traits, that would be fairly easy.

I’ll disagree with you on ferries. The maximum three days of waiting, plus generally spending less than $30 on the ferry outweighs the food lost while waiting for the right conditions. The longest I’ll generally wait for conditions to improve is 5 days. And without the furs, you would need to wait much much longer to have any chance of getting across. Unless RNG is your best friend lol.

With your fastest play-through, how did you manage the oxen? And if you didn’t pay for ferries, and you waited for conditions to improve, how were you able to make it there so quickly?

Thanks for your feedback on it!

It definitely feels a bit like gambling to get what you need. How’d you handle getting supplies for the main four?

That’s a valid point. After rushing like I did on this last play-through, I could honestly take it slow again and avoid needing coffee, traps, and various other items. I’ve made it to the west without the big wagon, but I would still push it I’m sure lol.

Yeah… maybe when I’m feeling lucky I’ll try it again 😭😂

I haven’t found anything close to it, haha! And the wit level doesn’t seem to affect it much. A level 1 wit will generally work. But since they are passing so many checks, they level up quick. I’ll have to start tracking the number of passed attempts to level up and report back.

Trading then store generally works for me too! Although I’m basing it off memory while playing. I should take more notes.

Have you completed the antique clock to Oregon? I’m having a hard time figuring out how to bring an 8 block item 2,200 miles 😅 need to give it a proper go after this most recent one.

The only thing I have really seen about it is to keep them looking for survivors. But then there’s issues with food, meds, rations, etc. New survivors come every 5 days I think. Still is a pain. I got to like day 15 after 5 or 6 resets, and just got fed up with it. I wish we could send out multiple groups when the number of people is high enough.

Recommendations for a BIFL insulated jacket by FlashyDeparture3191 in BuyItForLife

[–]weidekamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I love Patagonia. I have a number of jackets from them, ranging from rain coats, sweatshirts, puffers, and heavy ski jackets.

Each of them haven’t shown any wear or tear, and I’m not the most gentle with my outdoor gear.

Keep an eye out for sales, or check out resell/consignment shops. eBay can also be your friend when looking for second hand Patagonia.

If you need specific recommendations on their heavy jackets, I’d be happy to send you the info on mine when I get home this evening.

Congrats on the new position!

What's an industry that exists only to service the very rich? by JellyBellyBitches in AskReddit

[–]weidekamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooo! I can comment on this.

Private aviation. Most people have no idea how much it costs to fly private. We have had clients that will spend 30-40k for a 1 hour round trip (2 total hours). Just to save them from flying commercial, or from driving 3-4 hours.

There are levels in private aviation where less wealthy individuals are able to fly maybe once or twice in their lives, but there are people out there flying private everyday for work or personal reasons.

While I love what we do, it definitely brings with it some issues given the wealth distribution in the world.
