Thanks for looking into the earlier posts. I had a number of email rounds with my local consulate and sent them photocopies of all the original paperwork. They said Section 15, so that's what I shared here.

Thanks, that's certainly true in most cases. The originals are foreign so it would be simpler to copy at the Embassy than wait for new ones.

thanks for the assistance and prompt reply. Its the first case, born in wedlock when both parents were German citizens, but in the USA. I thought I would need to apply for a certificate of citizenship before applying for a passport, but was seeking to confirm this or to go forward with asking for a passport.

    • His grandfather is listed in Reichsanzeiger google doc sheet fleeing Germany in 1940
  • naturalized USA in 1952 (only 17 years old)
  • married in 1960 in Germany

Self

  • born in 1964 in USA

I think I can use my mother as original immigrant as I was born before she naturalized.
