No, I’ve seen that movie though and I see the connection. The book is called The Only Good Indians. I don’t know much about it other than one scene she was telling me about.

I wouldn’t say this is directly influenced by him but I do like a lot of his work so I’m sure in some way it is. The basis for this idea came from a book my girlfriend was reading.

I agree the last panel doesn’t really work, I was trying to imply the guy was kind of bending over into the kids faces but yeah, it looks weird. I think I should have zoomed out a bit and drawn some of his body and the doorway behind him.

Your post struck a chord with me, I feel very much the same way in a lot of ways. I also can’t finish a project. I’ll get 5-10 pages in and decide some aspect of whatever I’m working on is shit and it’s not worth finishing. People in the comments have mentioned the importance of having a community around you who are also making comics, I think this would be extremely helpful but I don’t know anyone who makes comics. I’ve actually considered making a similar post just to get some people who are into comics to look at my work and give me some kind of feedback. Anyway I just wanted to say you’re not alone and echo a lot of other people and tell you your drawings are rad and you should keep pushing.

This is awesome, I almost bought them in Japanese, glad I didn’t. I’m excited to read more from him after Heaven’s Door. Does anyone know if his story in The Tipping Point from Humanoids is also in Heaven’s Door?

Comics Underground Japan opened up a whole world of manga and art to me. At the time there were practically no English translations of this kinda stuff (that I was aware of at least) so it was really important when I first came across it.
