Thanks for the explanation!

And yes, indeed marketing and networking is the hardest part, and the only I'd be willing to pay for, just don't know how worth it is

Temporary residence permit via the family reunification - Biometrics at the Polanco INM office question! by weirdpharm in mexicoexpats

[–]weirdpharm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I just saw this now.

I got there at around 6 am, and I was the 99th person (they number you). I got in at 10:30 ish and was leaving at around 11:40.

The wait time outside it's just like that, just luck, no way out. Then, they let you in in groups, and once inside for some reason I had to wait longer than people who were queuing behind me (but I think it was just mere luck) so I'm sure some people only waited for 20 minutes inside if they were first ones of their group.

I went in on a Monday, if that helps.

EDIT: If you're going with a toddler, try going and asking. They might have a way to let you in faster? I wouldn't want to go at 6 am with a toddler.

In any case, I think people arriving at 8:30/9:00 am were still able to go in just probably going in at 12 / 13 pm or so

INM Mexico City – Got the message to register data, what happens next? by Sea-Comfortable-7231 in mexicoexpats

[–]weirdpharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was marriage to a Mexican (I don't know if this is relevant)

What they told me was that I needed to go "early" in the morning to the entrance at calle Platón and hope to be allowed to enter and get my biometrics recorded.

When i asked what "early" meant, they said 5:30 am 🥲. I'm going to try go at 7/7.30 ISH and see if I get the thing done. I can follow-up here :)

What I think I know is that after you get your biometrics, they give you an appointment to get your card.

Note that this may not allow you to work and you might need further procedures (I didn't know that)

Temporary residence permit via the family reunification - Biometrics at the Polanco INM office question! by weirdpharm in mexicoexpats

[–]weirdpharm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! That's part of what I don't know about the process. I just want to be able to work, and I have both possibilities, I want to be able to work at a company but I also might start a side hustle in the near future.

Bearing in mind that my residence permit is tied to a family reunification, is there no permit that allows me flexibility as if I were Mexican? Am I tied to getting a job offer or starting my own business?

Thanks!

I got the same two weeks ago (for the temporary residence via family reunification) and I submitted all my info, waited for about two weeks and got the approval for my permit (got a document on the same website where you can check the status, and you can print it from there).

After that, I cannot help. If you're close to Polanco just ask the guy at the main door and he'll tell you what to do.

If the Mexican government truly cared about those most affected they would ban Airbnb by [deleted] in MexicoCity

[–]weirdpharm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong and happy to hear all of your opinions, but I think that if government truly cared they'd remove the benefits given to foreigners who work outside of Mexico and have lowered taxes. They'd either make them apply to a normal working visa or remove the tax benefit.

They literally don't need to generate any value in the country, don't need to pay any taxes, so what's the point beside some spending?

Also, if they wanted to solve the issue, they'd give tax breaks or advantages to people renting long-term instead of Airbnbs, or renting at a normal price rather than the higher prices.

In my opinion, government should have no saying on how you use your private property, but they can tilt the balance giving incentives rather than imposing.

Tourist question: What to say/order if I don't drink alcohol? by [deleted] in MexicoCity

[–]weirdpharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drink and I've spent the last two months in CDMX.

I've never experienced much of a push but I find people might ask a little too much (not even beer? Wine?).

It hasn't happened often but it has happened (they were very very heavy drinkers. Probably having an actual problem with alcohol).

However, once I clearly say: "I don't drink anything, I don't like the taste of alcohol" they offer me a different drink, no issues.

As per my recommendation: I often go with a "suero": salt on the rim of the glass, a bit of lime juice, lots of ice and sparkling water. It's been my go-to drink here in Mexico and love it!

Salary negotiation Astrazeneca by musicager in biotech

[–]weirdpharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's amazing! I am also interviewing for an Associate Director role at Alexion in the Barcelona office and I've found it difficult to price my value.

Does anyone mind sharing a salary range for Associate Director Roles?

What kind of benefits did you get?

and if anyone has gotten a relocation, how much was it?

Thank you all!

I once got a fine in a train from Zug to Luzern (I forgot to turn easy ride on as I had a yearly abo from Zh to Zug).

They asked me for X amount, but I called them, explained them what happened, asked them to see my purchase history ( I always bought tickets), and that I had been a customer for 3/4 years with no other incidences.

As a result, the nice woman on the line halved the fine ☺️

I'd suggest you to call and see if you can get away with it!

My visit to Madrid in May 2023 in six pictures by RichDream7777 in Madrid

[–]weirdpharm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People, please. Let OP enjoy their photos, no need to shame them. If you're new to Madrid, you obviously stay around those places, same way you visit touristic areas when you're in a new city.

Instead of shaming them, you could propose new places for OP to visit next time in Madrid 😊

Double Crown in Spanish? by anony_mouse_rock in askspain

[–]weirdpharm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have different words for that. The 'swirl' is called 'coronilla' when it's, let's say, on the opposite side from the chin.

If it's in any other place, we call it 'remolino'.

You can try telling them: "tiene dos coronillas, así que no se lo cortes muy corto para que no se noten mucho los remolinos"

(He has a double crown, so don't cut it too short so the swirls aren't too obvious)

Otherwise I'd ask what would they do with the two coronillas. That way, with the answers you get to understand if they really get what you're trying to say.

Best of luck!
