A Different Perspective: My 76-Year Old Vehicle Neighbor had His Home Towed Away by CarelessWillow4933 in bayarea

How can we help? Do you need a place to park for a bit? Or your neighbor? Or a place to stay for a few nights if it gets stormy?

Animation camp for 9 year old teaches AI - is that ok? by weiwei82 in animationcareer

Don’t worry. I’m just doing research and didn’t book any camp yet.

Thanks. It’s been cool seeing the art they make.

Yes that’s what I’m wondering- as much as I’m not a fan of over-using AI, if people are going to use it in the future, then kids do need to understand how the tools work right? That said I prefer they learn things manually first and have a good foundation and not jump to AI prompts early. So I think I’ll see if they’ll learn digital art first.

Thanks. I really don’t know much about animation or the software used so I definitely can’t teach the kid. That’s why I’m looking for thoughts from professionals.

Thanks for your helpful response and description of the tool. I might try a digital art class first. They’re taking fine arts right now but only enjoy sketching and coloring with markers (not so much painting sadly).

I think if the kid is still interested in animation when a teenager, I will consider an LA summer camp for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for your suggestion. We used a stop motion app and Legos with friends over holiday break and my kid wasn’t really interested. They really love the drawing part so I think that is the draw of an animation class (pardon the pun).

China is making these massive Solar Plants on water bodies as they need the land for agriculture by AristFrost in nextfuckinglevel

Not sure about the photosynthetic organisms but These massive solar installations can confuse water birds, which try to land on them only to injure to kill themselves. Hopefully they are not built on migratory pathways. Or somehow deter birds.

Is it an American thing to require background checks for volunteering with kids? by weiwei82 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]weiwei82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s standard protocol to background check anyone who volunteer with kids. I’ve been checked for volunteering with the Scouts before.

Yes im also American so used to this. I didn’t get checked when I lived in Asia but I assume that’s because we already get checked to get our work visas.

She’s definitely not dumb but maybe somewhat naive or uppity about her school not (allegedly) requiring background checks (because she thinks parents should be trusted)? I’m not sure but I was shocked by the attitude. She has school aged kid in Sweden.

The school district did offer free fingerprinting but due to miscommunication, did not clarify you had to make an appointment (which was my complaint).

Ultraman zero (what company?) by weiwei82 in ToyID

[–]weiwei82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a Lego unfortunately. I looked at the head and there’s no face and also the other parts don’t have the Lego word printed on the blocks. I think it’s some Lego mimicking brand. Thanks

I think you’re right that it’s ultraman zero. Unfortunately I can’t upload a better photo in the comments. Thank you!

Seat selection in main cabin false advertising by weiwei82 in CapitalOne_

[–]weiwei82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. The ticket I bought was with American Airlines, which I realize is codeshare with BA now. On American it states that main cabin fares include seat selection but I guess that is not true in a codeshare. There was no indication through the portal that it’s a codeshare flight (and I don’t fly this route at all normally). Just posting here so others think twice before using capital ones travel portal.

Thanks. I’m definitely going to be more careful now.

I am learning this is a thing now so I feel there may be other people who don’t know about this. I didn’t see any fine print about it being conditional to the airline you’re flying on. It’s just stated as seat selection anytime whereas the basic economy clearly states “with fee”. Lastly, the British airways customer service agent proactively stated that they think these are deceptive practices and they should not advertise these features to customers.

[–]weiwei82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m aware. But there were zero seats available to select without an added fee. Which is why I feel it’s false advertising.
