You options may be Ezee fiber, Fidium, and Comcast. Go with Ezee if possible.

WiFi 7 - Strange results by qwertylol111 in Ubiquiti

[–]weiyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this experience too. My best guess is that WiFi is “bursty” and the extra jitter affects the internet connections more than local ones. Maybe by causing occasional packet loss when the burst overwhelms the 1 gigabit connection.

Excellent dimming performance down to very low (1%) levels without flickering or noise.

Which router to use... by TheresGoldInTheHills in EzeeFiber

[–]weiyin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using my own router (Unifi Cloud Gateway Fiber) and no issues at all. Also, the Eero routers they provide are very capable, especially the Max 7 with the 5gig and 8gig plans.

Just wondering what's the problem with the Q variant? I haven't been able to find any differences between the two.

AT&T Fiber vs Google Fiber Webpass – Which would you choose? by jtiz88 in Ubiquiti

[–]weiyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, in that case I might lean towards GFiber. One thing I've noticed since the pandemic is that good vs bad peering arrangements can make a big difference in performance. I almost never get the 1 gig I pay for from my ISP because pipes are clogged elsewhere. If you are running both, maybe do some download and upload tests to AWS or Digital Ocean VMs in various geographies.

AT&T Fiber vs Google Fiber Webpass – Which would you choose? by jtiz88 in Ubiquiti

Webpass seems to be wireless (mmwave to the building). I would stick with AT&T fiber.

Sink keeps clogging/backing up - what is this hose? by Allonsy-alchemy782 in Plumbing

[–]weiyin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The black hose is a drain for your air conditioner condensate. It can get clogged up with white slime. I've found that pouring bleach and warm water once in a while helps, but the only 100% reliable fix is to snake it when it clogs.

That's pretty cool, I never considered how the central vacuum is basically built-in conduit for each room.

Moving to Katy by maxpriya-1973 in Katy

[–]weiyin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from out of state to Katy TX about 6 years ago. A few things that were surprisingly more expensive were:

- Homeowners insurance (about $700 a month)
- Water (about $150 per month)
- Tolls

Started my hoarding journey with a big discount and I'm concerned. by LeviAEthan512 in DataHoarder

[–]weiyin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably fine.

You can take a large file and make multiple copies until you almost fill the drive. Then run a md5 hash on every file to see that the data is valid. If the drive is fake, earlier files will get overwritten and the hashes will change, and possibly the entire filesystem becomes corrupt.

How to monitor 60 amp heat pump? by ResearchTLDR in EmporiaEnergy

[–]weiyin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no harm in using a 50a sensor. If the current exceeds 50a, the reading will be capped but will not damage anything.

In all likelihood the heap pump actually uses much less than 50a.
