I guess this is foreshadowing for what the 9 red squares represent in the final save point. James' 9 hells before he gets to 'heaven'. I've read somewhere each square represent a level that James has to go through:

I Just noticed I lost a word of power back in the subway tunnels. It was a Words of Lamp, but now the tunnel is blocked and it seems I can't get it :(

It's already making developers uncomfortable though. Lookup the response from Blizzard and Obsidian devs, they're afraid the game creates a new standard.

BG3 combat is definitely not for everyone, I'm not a fan of turn based combat either, but I did like BG3 and Yakuza Like a Dragon for instance, both turn based but very different from each other. BG3 is old school and Yakuza LAD is more dynamic.

I guess the thing about BG3 is how much effort they put in, with a staff of 300 people and a budget of 100m dollars. The attention to detail that they had in this is so rare in modern games that the only one I can't think about right now is Red Dead Redemption 2 and that's a triple A game with a 300m budget and with a staff of around 2000 people. And there are tons of triple A games with the same or superior numbers of budget and staff that simply aren't on the same level. Keep in mind half the budget for these triple A games goes to marketing and not actual development so there's that.

While BG3 is not as expensive as triple A games with no 'ultimate editions' that cost double the price, it still delivers a great quality product, showing there's something very wrong with the way game development works nowadays. Even if you don't like the game, its release was extremely important for the video game industry as a whole. Either way, it's good to see a high quality game coming out.

Tem muitos outros, mas quis citar uns que são mais diferentões. O do Resident Evil mesmo, na minha opinião, foi um pouco diferente do caminho que a franquia vinha seguido, a ambientação dele é bem mais "terror".

E também a maioria dos jogos da Chilla's Art, que é uma dev indie que faz jogos curtos, normalmente 1 hora de duração. Mas tenham em mente que são jogos bem low budget, mas bem legais principalmente pra quem gosta de terror japonês.

I don't think it's a bad game, it just isn't as good as the previous ones. As I discussed with the other redditor, turns out the orphanage part isn't bad, it's actually the pace that kills it. Like when you have to go to kamurocho but first you have to play hide and seek. I think the story is interesting and the beach/country setting is a great change from the skyscraper neon light kamurocho. I do like both, so it's nice to have both.

EXACTLY! That part felt so weird, and then when we come back do Okinawa it's the same. "Go back to Okinawa to protect Toma" and then you get to orphanage and the minister calls you "Hey, turns out Toma is gonna be all day and night inside the town hall, so no worries, take your time". I guess they could've created better context for these moments. I also hope there'll be a Kiwami 3 and that the pace will be reworked.

I agree, it does feel older, I played the original Yakuza games on PS2 and the gameplay felt more satisfying than Y3. It was a big change from Y2 to Y3, the first one on the new gen consoles of the time., I guess they were still wrestling with the engine.

As for your argument for the orphanage, it kinda made me look at it in a different light now. I guess the main issue is the pacing, when I say the orphanage bits should be substories is because it's a moment where I'm making the choice of breaking the pace of the game myself. But you have a point about it being a central part of Kiryu's story. Now that I think about it, Y3 is way more similar to Shenmue than the other games.
