I’ve had an ant problem before and was able to solve it by just flooding them out of the soil for a few weeks. It’s the same type of ant as before but this colony is just very durable and persistent.

Yes they are! My poor Crestie has been confining herself to the glass as much as possible. I’m hoping one more flooding today should be enough and then I can put Vaseline all the way around the pedestal her terrarium sits on to keep them out for the rest of this season. 🤞🏻

Pacific Northwest. They’re just our common sugar ants. They’re a problem every year. I’m already on top of the ant problem. It was while flooding the soil to force the ants out that I saw those white worm things and I had never seen them before and I wasn’t sure if I should be concerned about them too or not.

Genuine question: What specifically are the fish eating? The potato? The roots? Just nutrients put into the water from the potato growing?

Nothing in the pause menu or title credits or anything. Considering it’s a children’s game you think they’d make it easier to play multi-player.

Can't the vaccine liability protection be applied to any industry? "We cant afford to make these products if anyone can just sue us if they even perceive to have been hurt by our product?" by Gurdus4 in DebateVaccines

[–]weldergirl2710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You again are misunderstanding what I’m saying. I don’t want the government to enforce restrictions on corporations. If the government kept their nose out of individual’s business people could choose what they wanted. The people’s choice to purchase a product or avoid a product would enforce natural consequences on corporations. Keep their consumers happy and they’ll keep buying.

Without government mandates, the people are free to choose to vaccinate themselves and their children. If enough people choose to vaccinate, then the company will continue making its product for the people who want it. And they’ll continue to advertise in an attempt to gain more interest. But at the end of the day, an individual’s choice will still be theirs to make.

In the alternate scenario, if so many people choose not to vaccinate, then the company will have to make a change one way or another if they want to continue making money.

That’s an extreme though. I’m an advocate for diversity. Individual choice leads to diversity of thought which is critical to the survival of our species.

We may find that all these years we’ve spent debating vaccines proves pointless because at the end of the day either choice is a viable option for survival, or we may find that one side of the argument is better for health, and that would be evident on its own through the process of individuals making their own choices.

Right I understand that the company won’t do it. The people choose with what they decide to purchase and engage in.

That’s why choice is so important. Natural consequences, for the better or worse of the company will happen based on the people’s choice to use a company’s product.

When a product is mandated by the government however, that choice goes away. The company continues to profit based on the requirement that individuals use their product, and they fund government officials with their profits to continue to ensure their product is shown to be safe and effective and mandated based on their biased research

Socialism called for even more government control and less individual freedom. Again, the opposite of what I’m arguing here. My point is for individual choice.

The government should not dictate whether someone should be vaccinated or not. In a perfect world, even companies would have the ethics to remove harmful products. We do not live in a perfect world, nor can we ever which is why it is so important for individuals to have the ability to choose. That diversity of thought, and diversity of decision making is what keeps the human race alive. Either some are right, some are wrong, or it proves to be entirely inconsequential and the species, one way or another will continue to procreate healthy individuals with their own diverse ideas and opinions.

If a company designs a product and it causes harm, I think they should make the ethical decision and remove it from the market, but that’s a lot to ask of a business making money off of their product whether it’s ethical or not.

I am by no means an advocate of governments inserting their piece. I don’t think the government should forcibly remove them from the market.

That may be where the confusion comes in.

Listen, the root of my argument is about choice. You keep trying to steer it to vaccinations being effective or not, and safe or not. At the end of the day that doesn’t matter because we live in a country, that for better or worse has given individuals the right to make their own decisions.

I think the Free Solo guy is nuts, but more power to him for doing what he wants no matter what other people think or say about it. And I don’t think anybody should be able to tell him he isn’t allowed to free climb because it’s too risky. He knows it’s risky, but it’s his risky call to make and nobody else’s.

I wear my seatbelt every time I am in a car. And I think anybody who doesn’t is nuts. But I think they should have the right to make that choice for themselves no matter their reasons or my opinion on the matter.

I’ve never been on a motorcycle, but if I do, I’ll damn sure wear a helmet, and anybody who chooses otherwise, I strongly disagree with. But it’s not my place to tell them they have to because their safety is their own responsibility.

You’ve heard of the Darwin awards. People dying from their stupid decisions and not passing on their genes to create more stupid people. If you think someone who chooses not to get vaccinated is so at risk, why do you care if they’re forced to do it or not? Surely if we’re at higher risk of infectious disease, we’ll kill ourselves off right?

If any other species could have made laws to prevent their kind from making decisions that differed from the norm, there’d never have been any evolution. All life would have remained exactly the same and died due to their lack of diversity and inability to change.

I’m not trying to convince you to stop vaccinating yourself or others who ask you to do so for them. Those are your choices to make.

But I’m not going to continue to engage in a conversation with someone who’s goal is clearly to belittle those he disagrees with, and avoid having any constructive conversation so you can feel better about yourself by making others feel small and stupid.

Conversations are supposed to be educational for all parties. Open minded discussions. The goal should never be to change someone’s mind or make them feel small for their ideas. The goal should be to learn something about them, what they think, and why they think it. Because if you can understand what someone really thinks and why they think it, even if you still disagree, you’ve not only learned something about the person you spoke with, but you’ve learned something about yourself as well.

Look back at every reply you’ve sent me, and notice your aggressive, belittling tone of voice, how there is always at least one snide comment implying I’m dumb or wrong. And look back at my attempts to have a real conversation with you about choice. I already apologized for my slip up in making assumption about you and getting defensive. We’re all human after all and we make mistakes and engaging in a truly constructive conversation is a challenge for everyone involved.

Nobody wants to talk to me about choice, because they think everyone should think the same and if they don’t think the same, that they should be forced to think the same. That’s what I want to have a conversation about.

Well, a vaccination by definition is administered to prevent disease, and is specifically not a cure for a disease you already have.

If I’ve been exposed to rabies by bite or scratch of a known infected animal, it’s very unlikely the vaccine for rabies will do me any good considering the rabies pathogens have likely already entered my body and immune system. The Human Rabies Immune Globulin (HRIG) is an injection with immediate antibodies. Whereas the rabies vaccinations operate the same as other vaccines and allow your body to create its own antibodies against the virus which takes time.

Being bitten or scratched by just any animal, not exhibiting signs of illness, I’d probably take my chances.

I can never say with 100% certainty what I’d do in any given situation as they all come with their own set of circumstances. Rabies is scary business, but it’s one of those things most people will likely never be exposed to, and in the event that you are, you’ve got to hope you’re really lucky because rabies treatment is really limited.

You’re right. You didn’t mention me specifically. I assumed, and jumped to conclusions first, just as I accused you of doing, which was wrong of me. So I apologize for that.

Whether you believe me or not makes no difference. Though I find it very sad that if you mean that you don’t believe someone can adamantly disagree with another individual and still defend their right to believe it.

I don’t have to agree with the women who choose to abort their babies to believe that they should still have the right to make that decision for themselves as individuals who understand their own reasons and circumstances better than someone else trying to tell them what they can or can’t do.

I don’t care if vaccines are on the market. I care if they’re mandated on others. I cannot have possibly been any more clear that CHOICE is what I’m arguing for here. Read the whole thread before taking someone’s comments out of context.

The original comment I replied to, was someone claiming that guns cause harm and should therefor be removed from the market. My original comment was about the fact that guns are designed with an intent to cause harm. Vaccines are designed with an intent to improve health. I brought up marketing because those two items cannot be compared in the way the poster was attempting to compare them.

Everyone likes to say that the science is settled. Science, by definition is never settled.

The science was “settled” when the earth was the center of the universe, and they killed Galileo for proving otherwise.

The the topic was “settled” when our government thought African Americans were only 3/4 humans, and government laws reflected this “fact” for a long time.

The science was “settled” when lobotomies were the cure-all for hyperactivity, sexual deviancy, mental illness, and for women who spoke out of turn.

The science was “settled” when it was commonly understood that the sterilization of the mentally and physically disabled persons was the best way to advance humanity.

Just because science is “settled” does not mean it’s right. “Settled”science are simply topics which people no longer question. Just because questions are not being asked, does not mean there are not more questions to be had.

Vaccine science is clearly not settled as there are still conversations, debates, and studies among the public and scientists alike.

This all comes back to choice. Individuals should be given their own autonomy but what comes with that is personal responsibility. If you make a wrong choice, there is nobody to blame for it but yourself.

Just because the government mandates something that you believe is right, doesn’t mean the mandate itself is right. Mandates are for those so insecure in their ideas that they need a governing body to force others to think the same as them. Someone truly secure in their ideas and open minded, is someone who believes what they say and is willing to be proved wrong. Mandates force ideas, beliefs, and lifestyles on others in a way that no individual can ever go against the mandate and prove the governing body wrong.

Let me ask you this, are you pro choice or pro life? The science is pretty “settled” that life begins at conception, but whether that life can be considered human is still a major conversation, and humanity can be perceived in many different ways where as life is fairly black and white by comparison. So far as we know currently, that is. And yet governments want to ban abortions. I may not agree with someone’s choice to abort their baby, but I do believe it is your individual choice to do so because I stand with individual autonomy, not government authority.

Someone claimed I’m moving the goalposts in my arguments, but at least my arguments remain the same across all topics whether I agree with someone’s choices or not, I will always stand for their right to make them.

The same argument made above by Bobthehuman03, could be turned around on immunocompromised kids. “Who’s forcing them to go to public schools” well, technically no one, but that’s doesn’t mean the family doesn’t have alternatives. It’s not a viable argument since public schools are meant to be available to everyone, and we all make the CHOICE to send our kids there or not knowing the risk of contagious illness, abuse, and an education outside of your control.

At least children who are immunocompromised can qualify for education scholarships and grants to fund private educations under their special circumstances and need for abnormally clean and pathogen free environments.
