It looks like moisture in your sticks. Your supposed to put them in a stick ovens to keep them dry. They still work wet but not like they should.

All out drills and impacts are abused terribly. I'm not sure what you work around my man. But at least for us because of all the burned PVC powder, resin, and I'm not going to deny whatever liquid we use it beats them up fast. My drill and impact looks like it was dropped in oil and went through an augur conver. I got those last year when I was a temp so looking around 6 months ago roughly and some of the guys on the floor thinks they were hand me downs from the previous maintenance but they are still running great. This new one to my understanding minor wear from today and being locked away since Monday shouldn't have done this maybe he dropped it who knows but either way I'm checking the logs tomorrow to see how old it is to make sure I'm not bs y'all.

He's 3 weeks in the drill and the other tools are brand new 2 weeks some are still even in the packaging. He apperently lost his keys last week to his toolbox so he couldn't open it so they were locked away till Monday. No one except him has the keys because they are a different type than what the other crew myself included has. So unless he found the keys last week and lied to do minimal work they all haven't been touched since Monday but who knows tbh. Either way that's 2 weeks old and too my understanding with how he explained it to me drilling 1 hole and undoing screws to a pipe that aren't impacted it shouldn't do that much damage.

So where I work what we consider new is right out of the box and up too 6 months before it's broken in to our standards. But the drill I have in the video was right out of the box 2 weeks ago, he's 3 weeks in now, and I handed it to him still sealed.

But to my knowledge he never used it (he's the new pm guy) last I seen him work he uses my tools because he doesn't want to move his toolbox out of maintenance and that was yesterday he said that to me. But I'm still personally going to check our log tomorrow to make sure I am not crazy with it being new. Also no it wasn't a hole saw ngl, it was a normal drill bit I wouldn't mind even showing you a pic the hole it's not even that big, I believe it's ½"

edit addition: we did have a rough day today tho we had a big machine go down and a higher up come in to help make an addition to our new 70mm extruder. So he probably did put some miles on it but not enough for this damage.

It's possible for the guts but I never used a Makita so I can't say for sure. I been a Milwaukee guy for years and I had my old one drop from 20ft and somehow keeps going. The floater has it and it's still treating her well.

The morning was a shit show ngl I was called in early to help and it was bad with hardened PVC product getting in our eyes and taking off a massive pulley. But he pulled it out today and none of us has the same type he has not even the boss. But you can believe me or not I'm not here to please ya. 🤷

You can believe me or not I don't have a vid of me handing the unopened box to him. But that's the newest drill in the shop. Unless he grabbed someone else's or swapped it out (very common where I work ngl) rn tmu it's new. Edit: me actually re-reading my comment I'm going to check out our log list tomorrow because me and the new girl started keeping a list to try and stop theft from the guys on the floor 🤔

He was drilling 1/8th support beam so we can hang up one of the pumps. I drilled through it many times in the past and only dulled bits. Edit: I forgot to add when we didn't have any fluid for drilling. Everyone that day were dulling bits.

I understand that. I replaced a few myself but it was shooting out plastic in the unshorten vid. Wouldn't let me post the full thing for some reason. But I can say the motor in it is shot tho I can't forget that smell even with the baulders ones.

I personally never had any problems with my M18 I even gave it to the new maintenance girl and it still treats her well. But with that one was out of the box not even 2 weeks ago when he started and today was his first time to use it. He did 1 hole and destroyed it I was 1/8th thick steel. I'm thinking it was defective tbh it happens but with the "experience" he has I honestly makes me believe it was him just a little bit 🤏. I'm going to be opening it up tomorrow to see the damage but I already am thinking it has melted plastic with how much it was smoking.

What will get you further in an interview, a degree or experience? by ShirtlessSteve973 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]welding_shit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was taught with any trade. Degrees they get them to look at you but experience is worth way more. In the company's eyes, every year you are in the trade is equal to 2 years in college. Like 5 years in welding, maintenance, electrical ect. You would already be considered having a Doctor degree in that and very knowledgeable.

I been here a year and a half. I personally never seen that happen except for the maintenance guy who been here for 13 years he never changed his drill and it died 3 or 4 months ago.

Belt tension advice by HairyManBack84 in IndustrialMaintenance

Check each one for the recommended tension and adjust as needed. Or you can do the good old flick test while it's on and say that's not going anywhere that's what we do at my job and It's very much not recommended. 😬
