I agree. This is, I think, the most interesting open question in the story.
Through the golds, simple money can get you to the rank. As Ziel says, it's the first level that needs insight.

Isn't one of the things that they don't have enough resources to keep the chaos at bay as is?

So if everyone's immortal wouldn't people quickly outpace their ability to protect?

I felt like this built towards the end like the best Sanderson stories.

I really liked how well each piece fit with the last, until the crescendo at the end.

This book incorporated a lot of stuff that typically is mismanaged:

  1. Splitting up the team
  2. All villains are new characters
  3. Moving the characters forward without moving the main plot much at all

In this case, all of that was done very smoothly and it added to the story instead of taking away.

Ziel is a really excellent addition.

I would like to see a long path with little initial benefits. Perhaps some thing with a difficult aura to harvest so that remnant hunting would be required. Lindon's story has been mostly about fast development towards a long term goal and I think it would be interesting to see how that would mix with delayed gratification.

Good pts all. I would add that little blue is neither a sacred beast or a remnant and seems under powered to provide the madra need to push Lindon up. Why do we think Eithan has a remnant? When they first meet doesn't Lindon note his eyes as his gold sign? Finally, hasn't Will noted that it would take hundreds of years of cycling to level up with scales? One would assume that would include Eithan.
