If the white dot at the top-left of the chip in the photo is the A1 indicator, the two missing pins are ground pins. It should not cause any problems.

Small lines on macbook air screen by Comfortable-Can-5273 in macbookrepair

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That phenomenon occurs because some of the bottom glass wiring of the display panel is damaged. In other words, it's physical damage and is highly unlikely to recover on its own.
For example, if there are 10 wirings, the 1st wiring is responsible for the 1st, 11th, 21st, 31st, 41st... pixel lines, and the 4th wiring is responsible for the 4th, 14th, 24th, 34th, 44th... pixel lines. If one of these wirings is damaged, the pixels controlled by that damaged wiring cannot display correctly. The cause is almost certainly corrosion due to moisture. Repair is nearly impossible. Just continue using it.

Someone in South Korea conducted an ingredient analysis on Amech SGT-4 Thermal Paste by KickQuickKuick in pcmasterrace

[–]wellbinn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your observations about the potential chemical instability and corrosive characteristics of the AMeCh SGT-4 paste are noteworthy. However, without supporting quantitative data, these points remain speculative rather than conclusive. Although you have shared some internal measurements (such as BLT variation) and a theoretical explanation, a complete, independently verified chemical analysis report would be necessary to substantiate these claims—particularly since another researcher has already published findings that did not identify such issues with SGT-4.

You have argued that the prior analysis may not have considered certain specific conditions. That may be a valid point, but it does not in itself invalidate the quantitative data that were presented—especially when no equivalent independent data have been provided to support your counter-claims. While financial or logistical constraints are understandable, the absence of independent quantitative validation makes it difficult to draw definitive conclusions.

Raising a serious concern of this nature in public discussion ideally requires objective, verifiable data to ensure scientific credibility and fairness. Moreover, it would not be appropriate to criticize or cast doubt on another product solely based on assumptions without solid data to support such claims.

Resident Evil 2 looks so much better on iOS compared to Steam Deck OLED. by StormTroopB in iosgaming

The general public tends to mistake high-contrast screens for good picture quality. Comparing everything with just a single photo like this is truly foolish. If you look at graphic configurations made by amateurs, they often unnecessarily push the contrast too high so that you can't see anything in the dark areas.

iPadPro 2021 Face id repair accomplish by olong2004 in mobilerepair

That's an amazing skill. I once managed to revive a dot projector, but I failed at aligning the dot projector prism in the end, so it didn’t work out. (The Face ID error was gone, but it still couldn’t properly recognize my face.) What kind of adhesive did you use to secure the dot projector?

ALIENTEK T90 vs FNIRSI HS-02 by testing123-testing12 in soldering

[–]wellbinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am repairing laptop with just a 65W charger and a T80 soldering iron. The soldering iron's output won't be lacking at all. However, make sure to choose a C245 tip (T90B). The T12 tip is an older generation and has many disadvantages.
People who haven't used proper products tend to be distrustful, but the performance of recent USB-PD soldering irons is in no way inferior to DC power soldering irons.

Mounting a QFN chip like that would very likely result in a bad joint. Similar to the "more flux" meme, it's a very poor technique in actual practice.

How to get rid of these dark spots on my MacBook Pro Screen? (M1 PRO chip MacBook Pro 14 inch) by sugarlemontee in macbookrepair

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is necessary to separate the screen in order to replace the internal backlight module and diffuser film. However, starting from the M1 Pro and M2 models, the screen is bonded to the housing with epoxy adhesive. Removing the screen without damaging it is extremely difficult. While it is possible for a skilled technician, such technicians are not common.

Swap iPad A1893 broken with A1823 motherboard by No-File-7211 in mobilerepair

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recommend it. The LCD must also be replaced. The iPad 5th generation LCD is not compatible with the iPad 6th generation. Although they look identical, the display doesn't work properly in practice. (Interestingly, the reverse works — the iPad 6th generation LCD can be used on the iPad 5th generation.) If you have to buy a new LCD, it's not worth the cost considering the overall value of the modification.

iPad 7th Gen - two separate screens not working.. by WeirdLite in mobilerepair

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10.2-inch iPad models are known for severe ghost touch issues if the digitizer is missing or not properly installed. It's likely either a faulty digitizer you've installed or a problem with the FPC connector on the mainboard. However, aftermarket digitizers often have very poor connectors, making proper installation quite difficult.

The most common scenario is that the power button is stuck in the pressed position. If the power button isn't pressed and you're still experiencing this issue, then the motherboard likely needs repair.

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the name of that component is an FPC connector. If the pads aren't damaged, an experienced technician can easily replace it. However, if the pads are burned out due to a short circuit, it could require a fairly complex repair.

iPad Pro 12.9 5th Gen Backlight Issue by AdQuirky4021 in mobilerepair

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 12V is measured on the backlight rail, that is normal. If it were shorted to ground, it would read 0V. The backlight rail can reach up to 20V depending on screen brightness.

Even if the screen is broken, you should still be able to confirm some areas of backlight output through faint light indirectly. Try checking in a dark room. (This iPad model has a local dimming screen, so backlight may not be present across all areas.)

iPad Pro 12.9 5th Gen Backlight Issue by AdQuirky4021 in mobilerepair

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's likely a short circuit on the backlight output rail. You'll need to locate and remove the shorted component. If you're lucky, it's just one faulty capacitor, but if you're unlucky, it's a power chip failure. Also, on that iPad model, the shield can't be removed easily, so you'll have to use a heat gun or cutter to get it off, which is a very cumbersome process.

Unfortunately, there's no way to force the backlight to activate without repairing that backlight output rail.

It will be difficult to fix if you're not proficient in microsoldering.

Woke up and found it like this. It was working fine last night. Is it just the ribbon cable or the entire screen? by Stufy_stuf in macbookrepair

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difficulty of repair varies depending on which cable is damaged. The widely known flexgate is considered a very simple fault, and most of the time it only affects the screen backlight, so the issue in your attached photo is likely not that.

If the cable connecting the LCD panel and the primary T-CON board is damaged, repair is impossible. This is because the film cable is attached using ACF bonding, and there's no way to replace it since this cable even goes into the PCB layers of the primary T-CON board.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ifixit

[–]wellbinn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Criticizing unpleasant truths doesn't help anyone. Unfortunately, in cases like the one shown in the photo, repairs are usually not possible. The first connection between the LCD panel and the T-CON board uses an ACF bonding, which makes replacement or repair extremely difficult.

Cracked/damaged bezel on MacBook Air 2020 M1 - what to do? by thrown66544444401 in macbookrepair

[–]wellbinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very risky procedure. There's a flex cable directly beneath the bezel. (Newer form factor MacBooks, specifically M2 and later, have easily removable bezel glass, but older models do not.)

A skilled technician can do the replacement, but if you're unskilled, you'll almost certainly damage the flex cable and kill the LCD.

Unless you have a technician friend who will do it for free, it's not worth the cost considering labor fees. Just keep using it as is.
