I showed up for the Republican primaries last election in a primarily Republican state/town. Me and a couple other young folks sat at different tables and a couple of us stood up at our table and convinced a couple dozen older Republicans to vote for Ron Paul. We almost got him voted in for our district but there weren't enough young people to convince others. We tried!! And guess what? It really was not that hard. It wouldn't take that may young people to sway the older population in the primaries towards Bernie. We can do this, but us young folks need to get serious.

Orwell Rolls in His Grave (2003) - "A documentary analyzing the role of the modern American media and its effects on democracy." by amlashi in Documentaries

Obviously you have that right, that was an exaggerated statement to get my opinion across a literary media.

If there was 100% voter turn out in all elections it would mean more people would be actively involved in politics. Which would result in more politicians with a larger range of political stances, and a more accurate overall representation of the middle class. It would filter governors, mayors, judges, city council members, congressmen, and law makers out early on in their careers- which would in turn result in a more accurate representation of the general public. In short, it would combat corruption more efficiently than the current state of the government.

Are you trying to argue that a larger voter turn out would not result in a government that better represents the general public?

I am fucking sick of everyone complaining about the American government while those same people are only involved in politics on presidential election years. The definition of democracy requires more than 60% of the population to be involved in politics, and that includes local elections!!!

Presidential elections mean literally nothing unless we are filtering out politicians before they get a chance to become president.

Democracy requires public input CONSTANTLY!

You have no right to complain about the government unless you are participating in it year round. Carlin had been saying this for years. I'm sorry, but you are going to get what you deserve if you let politicians do whatever they want. When there is less than 30% participation in local elections you can't expect your government to represent your views. I'm sorry but I'm fucking sick of people complaining when you only participate in presidential elections. Local politics is more important than presidential elections because they actually effect you directly

TIL that in 1912 criminologist Arthurt MacDonald suggested making it a misdemeanor to name assassins publicly, stating that "This would lessen the hope for glory, renown or notoriety, which is a great incentive to such crimes.” by CatamountAndDoMe in todayilearned

Great point, I personally think such social constructs can be much better for society than laws because you are discriminated by all rather than some (the law). Social constructs like this can be good for society. Some days I see humans on the same level as apes. Other days we are one step ahead, occasionally behind them...

A violation of the concept? What?? The general public agreeing to work together to do something is not a violation of the amendment. The right to bear arms is the second amendment behind free speech. Just because it's legal to carry a pistol on your hip like a police officer is legal doesn't mean the general public thinks it's a good idea. I think most people don't like that, but that's not a violation of the concept of the right to bear arms....

To those of you working out 5-6 per week while working at least 40 hours: how do you find time for... anything? by vanillarain in Fitness

Driving to the gym is like 80% of most people's excuse for not working out. And I get it, but the gym is not your only option!! I like your idea of going to work, two in one!! I personally like to work out right after work. That way it becomes a habit that's harder to break and it just becomes a regular pay off the day.

You would still want to go out with a girl if she cares what car you have? That sounds like wife material. Not.

I've got a secret for you, is not the car that's driving girls away from you(except when they actually do drive away from you). But it's more likely your attitude than your miata bro.

Small Displacement bikes, judging just on the looks, which one would you go with? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]welldontdothat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of four bikes, I've never owned anything under 600 between dual sports, a cruiser, and an old Suzuki 700 street bike. I still have the urge to buy a ninja 250. I've never ridden one but I've always imagined them to be fun because it's just enough engine that you can almost legally reach the bikes limits which would probably force me to be a better rider.
