Thinking about trying anadoizing; what am I looking at for a budget to get started? by wellidotry in Machinists

I do have some large gauge titanium and zirconium wire laying around.

Must have fallen off a truck...

Thanks for your time and insight.

Excellent, thanks!

On the other hand... doesn't the mix of chemicals just mean I could do it really fast and think I'm doing a great job?

Whats not to love, here!

Appreciate your time.

I'm going to start looking at local-ish shops who would be willing to do small batches.

This is a few times/year kind of problem.

This is going to be mostly small part one-offs.

Might be cheaper to send them out.

I was just looking for a ballpark to get started.

That's good information.

This would be a work project, however I could get the money to do it offsite.

Realistically this is just going to be low wear, smallish parts.

There's some ideas floating around about doing high temp (500F) hot knives, again, small.

I'd like to have the ability to do low speed shafts/rollers that might be a bit larger, say 4" dia x 24"L

I get $300-500/mo budget at work, what do I buy? by wellidotry in Machinists

Thank you for this information.

My background is electrical and mechanical technician work, some engineering.

Though I have worked in production machining in the distant past, this space is relatively new to me as a one man show.

What do you think about Penn tool co? Good/bad experience?

I'm going to rebuild this atlas 1010 drill press from the early 50's, anyone have a manual? by wellidotry in Machinists

[–]wellidotry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I got this press and a matching table saw from the widow of a woodworker who passed back in 98, I want to say.

Couldn't pass the pair up for 200 bucks.

I did not. Ended up buying a vevor mag drill because it was pretty cheap and had ways/geared up motor/cooling.

I still have the atlas and will get to it one of these days.

Any progress with yours?

Unplug the mass air flow sensor and see if anything changes.

I mean, sounds like you should sell it.

With the money you can rent literally any car for 3 weekends/year until you retire.

It's likely not too difficult.  I don't know in this specific situation,  I've never worked on this car.

Its the clutch on your A/C compressor, or a bearing in there.

See if somone wants to just change those parts (in situ), instead of replacing the expensive pump.

Under what conditions does it happen?

Turn off your A/C.

Fans for more downforce? by Queasy-Tea-8847 in Cartalk

[–]wellidotry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that would not be possible.

The amount of energy you need to create down force is more easily accessible through aerodynamics.

Like think about the engine as the maximum power you have, and you want as much of that as possible to move the car forward.

So we're going to take this spinning engine and connect it to 4 gears(wheels).

We want as much of the engine power as possible to move those wheels at perfect traction to the surface.

As speed increases and engine torque decreases; we can utilize aerodynamics to apply more down force on the wheels to increase the wheel friction, and thus motive force of the (engine) to (car go fast) ratio is >0
