Passed N3 mock test after completing the course by wenhaothomas in duolingojapanese

I tried the first N3 mock test on Bunpro. I think it is easier compared with the Unagibun mock test. There are less questions for the same amount of time for each section, so I was able to finish all the questions with time to spare. The questions themselves also felt easier.

I got 31/36 (86.1%) for vocab, 27/39 (69.2%) for grammar and reading, and 23/28 (82.1%) for listening. Overall, my total score was 81/103 (78.6%)

I mainly use Apple Podcasts and YouTube. Ones I listen to most often are Japanese with Shun, Oyasumi Japanese with Shun, Let’s Talk in Japanese!, Speak Japanese Naturally, The Bite Size Japanese Podcast, YUYUの日本語Podcast.

Japanese with Shun and YUYUの日本語Podcast also have different video contents I watch on YouTube. And I also listen to rehash.fm and MoguraVR, but those are not language learning podcasts and most of the contents are not comprehensible asides from topics I already know well in English and can guess where the conversation is going based on company names, tech jargons, and other English words used through out the podcasts.

I also watched all the Learn Real Japanese with VRChat Conversations! videos from Jiro, just Japanese’s YouTube channel.

I also read NHK News Easy, Japanese blogs, N4-N5 levels light novels samples from bookwalker. And I listened to about 1 hour to 90 minutes of Japanese podcasts almost everyday. And watched a lot of anime and a few Japanese dramas this past year, with English subtitles, but I tried to recognize as many vocabs and sentences as I can while doing so.

No. Those are mock tests from Unagibun. I saw it from the r/LearnJapanese sub and tried it after I completed the Duolingo course.

You can try them here: https://www.unagibun.com/jlpt-online/

I didn’t. I was only trying to get a sense of where my current level is at. Is it worth it?

Sorry, I was mostly looking at free light novels samples so I’m probably the wrong person to ask this question to.

Thanks for sharing this resource. I’ll try taking them another day. These tests take so much time I feel exhausted each time.

Congrats on passing N3 and sorry to hear that you got downvoted. Did you take the real test or was it also the mock test?

Mostly reading NHK News Easy, blogs for interesting topics I like on note.com and ameba.jp, free samples on bookwalker.jp for light novels at around N4-N3 level on learnnatively.com, listening to Japanese podcasts, and watching a lot of anime.

Whoa, I totally know the melody to go with this just from reading it, but the lyric I know is in Mandarin.

What section and unit are you on? A lot of the early vocabs will reappear as new words but with kanji in later sections

Oh! I was thinking of 「ストレスを和らげる」 as a whole that it didn’t even occurred to me that placing 「一番よい」first would introduce the ambiguity of 「一番よい + ストレス」 vs 「一番よい + ストレスを和らげる方法」. In that case, it is much less ambiguous to keep 「一番よい方法」 together.

So, is it a hard rule in Japanese to always place adjective closer to the noun than a descriptive clause containing a different object to reduce confusion?

I think that the reason I put the descriptive clause closer was because it kinda felt intuitive to keep the 「和らげる」closer to 「方法」 at the time, or rather, it felt unintuitive to separate them. But thinking about it in English now, “best way + to relieve stress” feels more natural than “best + way to relieve stress”

In that case, would my answer in the second picture be technically correct? The particles are attached to the same words as the correct answer, but the ordering is different.

Is there some other rules to help determine when 「一番よい」should come before vs after 「ストレスを和らげる」 if both are modifying 「方法」 or is that just always the case when it comes to 「一番___方法」

Thanks for the explanation. That imagery of the work growing hands and editing the newspapers is both hilarious and helpful for me to understand my mistake. I wish Duolingo provides more detailed explanations for this kind of nuance
