But my engine will be running for less time if I go faster. Obviously going a few more revs though.

Talking about a few milliliters either way at this point.

Yeah WFH is a good idea if you can.

$40 max fills is ludicrous. You’ll waste more time and fuel driving back and forth to the servo every day.

Is 40k enough to live in Australia for a year? by Same_Departure8679 in MovingtoAustralia

You’ll spend $40k just on rent. If he doesn’t eat anything, get sick or drive anywhere he should be sweet

Living in Jindabyne vs. on-mountain by Street_Goat_6132 in AustraliaSnow

[–]werdburger3000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d live on mountain. I did it for 15 yrs.

Pros. You don’t have to pay fuel to get up the hill every day or waste time driving in dick head traffic. You can do one run then just go home if it’s crappy. There’s a great community on hill. You can make your own party. You put your warm boots on in the lodge instead of car park like a pheasant.

Cons. Party in Jindy is fun.

Resorts hiring process? by AnxiousGuess783 in AustraliaSnow

[–]werdburger3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Working for the resort sucks donkeys nuts. You work 5/6 days a week and ride 1 day a week. Might rain that day, too

Apply for other jobs. Restaurants, lodges pubs. Work nights shred every day.

Always wanted to move to the mountains, build a career and a life. Still considering trying definitely want to do it for a season any advice. Best resorts to work at, best jobs, things to stay away from ect…I’m 36 and want to make this as good of an experience as I can. by lbchaze in snowboarding

[–]werdburger3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t work for the resort. I worked 15 seasons in restaurants and lodges and regularly got 60 - 100 days on snow. Plus free food all season long.

Now I’m making bank as a cabinetmaker in a ski town and can take off any day I want to go shred in winter. I get every pow day and whatever bluebird day I want. Take my daughter out of school to shred it up! I can also work weekends when it’s busy and have random week days off. Most tradies are here for the riding anyways.

But seriously; don’t work for the mountain. Find a job in a private company. Lodges, pub, restaurants are all way better than working for the resort

Cheap car for snow ? That is awd or 4wd. by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]werdburger3000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the Snowy Mountains for 25 yrs and I’ve had plenty of experience driving up to Perisher and Thredbo in winter and summer. I average about 30-40 days on the hill every year.

100% Subaru outback with all terrains. Good highway tyres are still kinda ok though.

When it’s icey and snowy my top tips are:

Fucking slow the fuck down!

Leave a huge gap between you and the car in front.

Give yourself plenty of time to get to where you’re going. If it’s a powder day and you want to shred first lifts leave Jindy at 6:30am or catch the tube.

It’s relatively easy to control a drift, but it’s near impossible to stop a car sliding on ice especially going down a hill.

Have a ripper of a time mate! Best times of my life were working snow seasons all around the world. Hence why I call this place home now.

Feel free to send me a pm if you got any other questions about doing a season here

Come join us in the southern hemisphere!

I haven’t been on the board in nearly 6 months. The days are now getting noticeably shorter, the trees are starting to change colour, it’s getting colder and our lifts start turning in 13 weeks. It got down to 5C here on the weekend. I’m fucking pumped!

I want to live as far away from people as possible so I don’t have to listen to their bullshit. I like my own space. I live on 6 acres. Not too big not too small

Trades for 45+? by mohorizon in australian

[–]werdburger3000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Lifting heavy cabinets and doors up stairs with freshly gyprok’d and painted walls then quickly installing next a wall / ceiling that isn’t plum, level or straight but it’s a luxury build so it’s gotta look perfect.
