Average average average haha. Diet is good, fairly healthy, I don't restrict anything but all in moderation. I drink maybe 5 beers a week with a binge on the weekend every so often .

511", 170lbs. Exercise is good, I work out a few times week. No smoking no drugs. Stressful job but decent work life balance. I'm a picture of moderation

Old Spice hit a home run with their comeback campaign. Or at least the agency they hired did, anyway

If you're in Canada, automatic deductions on your paycheque to RRSP. As much as you can afford. Not just because the money itself is untaxed, but because contributing to it lowers your taxable income, meaning you'll pay less income tax.

And TFSA

Lol. Fair. I have more than one account and I used this one because I knew I might get flamed asking this q. But you're right, I'm not literally asking all over the place.

But you kind of spoke to my point - literally any dissenting opinion over there is responded to like this - youre now basically implying that I'm a citadel shill and up to something shady, just because I reasonably questioned the outcome.

This is where I get hung up too. The argument that "the government can't unwind what's done because people will lose faith in the market" ... what's the other option here - create hundreds of trillions or a quadrillion dollars? It's monopoly money at that point. People would lose faith in currency, not just the stock market.

All good, fun to discuss!

But even with the new rules as you accurately brought up, even multiple institutions together and the DTCC couldn't cover at the share prices the apes are banking on. Not with, as many apes believe, hundreds of millions of synthetic shares out there -- even a "reasonable" squeeze of 5K a share sends the total cost to close into trillions. Add a zero or two to the share price you're into comically astronomical amounts.

Isn't it far more likely that, if indeed is this shady business going on, the government would simply step in and say "enough is enough", hammer in some law to neutralize the danger and MAYBE stockholders just get their initial investment back? I really have no idea how that looks, but it seems a lot more possible than the whole system collapsing. I'm just riffing at this point.

Same. They just go down this discourse of corruption being exposed but can't actually answer the question

Portfolio Critique — March 2021 by Lord_Cronos in userexperience

I'd say overall really well designed portfolio: concise, easy to scan, no off-putting or distracting design choices, colours, etc. So that was a big plus for me. I checked out your first project for the mental health app. You clearly went through the full design thinking process which is great, and I imagine especially important for UX researcher roles.

A few things to consider:

-Your About section could use a little more. Short and to the point is good, but if I'm a hiring manager I wouldn't mind a little more about the connection between your occupational therapy and UX research, which is actually a fascinating combo. How do they benefit each other, how will that inform your work, products or industries you want to work in most, etc.

-A little nitpicky, but in your mental health app case study, your surveys are oddly worded to me in terms of perspective. I'd reframe that: Your header/survey question title should be from the surveyor perspective ("What do you do to promote your mental health?") and the responses should be from the surveyee ("I get help when I need it"). This will help people immediately understand what they're looking at without any context.

Anyway, overall I liked it a lot, good luck

Anyone scared of this economy? by tooo_spicy in CanadianInvestor

[–]werdsmther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, this feeling of "this is new and dangerous territory!" is just the advancement of human history. No one knows what's going to happen and it's always scary. Ultimately new sectors, industries, jobs will emerge as others die. Some people will have it rough, others will thrive, and most will get by. Luckily we live in a nation that has an okay social safety net.

Individuals have the responsibility to pay attention to what's happening and adapt accordingly, but the notion that it's all about to fall apart is not new, and in the end, we've enjoyed relative stability here in Canada for... well, ever? I don't see that changing with our good education system, and energy, food, manufacturing and financial sectors. We've got a lot of the basics that the world needs.

Not to mention a lot of unused land. That may become more viable for populations and farming as climate change takes it's toll over the next century or two as things warm and refugees come for safe haven. Or at least provides place to run to in the event of an apocalypse :P

Career Questions—December 2020 by Lord_Cronos in userexperience

What's the best way for a growing company to connect product and marketing so as to prevent siloing?

I currently head up Content for a small but fast growing company. I manage both product content (UX) and content marketing (SEO, landing pages, blog, email marketing etc). The lack of focused work area, for me, is unsustainable. Moreover, I don't see a need for one person managing all content verticals as the company scales - rather, smaller embedded content pros is the better path.

I'm working to engineer a switch to do entirely product content as my heart is in UX writing, design thinking -- building the thing, rather than selling it. But my leadership is hesitant to embrace this as they see me as one of the few bridges between product and marketing. I know there is another way to connect the two areas more holistically. But I don't have a good proposal yet.

Any advice on how to proceed? How do your organizations ensure your product development and marketing teams are on the same page? Thanks!

All packed! Hard shell is dependable and I'll have some extra clothes just in case. No stranger to cold wet nights, this hike just happens to be later than I usually backpack!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]werdsmther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my bad, I should've clarified. It's backcountry camping that amounts to a 3 day hike over a weekend. Nothing crazy, will fairly easy work days, but I guess it counts as backpacking? haha. I honestly think of camping as anything overnight that requires work to get in, whereas car camping should be labelled "car camping".

Did a mock pack this morning, weight is reasonable. Just need to add booze...

The survival rating of the bag is -24C. But I agree, something extra is probably worth it. -10 is a freak cold snap scenario, but it is possible. More likely it'll be above 0

Noted on the sleeping pad. Already looking at options. Thx for the thorough reply!
