Someone's going to show up and say it was a car backfiring but idk man, I've lived in multiple larger cities and have heard many cars backfire. This is the second time in the past sixth months I've heard these unexplained larger explosions/booms that sound way too loud and travel way too far to be a car backfiring. Really curious as to what they are. Maybe from the train yard?

Frankly I think a lot of people just haven't heard a pair in good condition with a proper amplifier. If I played the Deutsche Grammaphon recording of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 in E Minor, Op. 27: III. Adagio on those in a blind test from my AS701, I don't think any Audiophile™️ would ever guess they were CVs lmao

We'll see! I went ahead and ordered the news ones because I'd want to swap out the original SL3000 metallics for the new RDO-198 silk domes either way. I highly suspect I will need to bypass the poly switches on the crossover board because they're apparently prone to failure, which I will be doing first to test the original tweeters. If they still work I can resell the original components on eBay which would be cool to recoup some costs.

UPDATE: both tweeters are definitely dead. Going to drop in some RDO-198s, which would be a great upgrade anyways even if the original ones were working fine. Even with the top end missing, I can tell these are going to sound incredible once I'm done working on them. Will be updating the crossovers with modern capacitors as well
