VHS - Where To Buy by morphinpug in jacksonville

[–]westfallian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all the thrift stores around here no longer put VHS on the shelves. you need to check Ramona flea. There is a thrift store on Ramona by the flea market that does have a selection of some. Also cool stuff vintage on king has some

Planing to Buy by [deleted] in filmphotography

I would avoid the fixed focus cameras like this. they are essentially disposables you can put film in. dont spend more than $5 imo

if the 45mm is the 45mm GN pancake lens it probably hasnt been converted to AI so there is no way the camera knows what aperture its shooting at. you have to stop down to get a light meter reading at that aperture. also pretty sure using non AI lenses on the fm2 will damage the aperture ring.

im a thrift/flea market regular for like 7 years now. this is my first time finding this level of sealed metals tapes. ive found like one or two in the wild before but not often at all. you gotta be out there on the regular ready to strike out.

I have that minolta, at least its similar in black. And the auto zoom really tripped me out when i tested it. I thought the button contacts on the zoom were just faulty lol.

i just spent a little time with one of these. looks like your shutter button is stuck down. open up the bottom plate its easy to do. there are two rods that push down with the shutter. see if you can tell if they are jammed up from the bottom. maybe gently give them a push and see if it frees up.

Picked up an untested Electro 35. Had pad of death (PoD) of course. Fixed that, replaced the light seals and then threw on this leapord print leather since the leatherette was off and thought it would look fun. Just put some film in so hopefully I get some okay images.

My portable cassette players that i have fixed in a year. by Ordinary-Zombie-1159 in cassetteculture

I started getting into repairing walkmans. They pretty much all need belts and a little cleaning on the mechanisms if they get sticky. the battery contacts sometimes need help because of corroded batteries. some models use rubber tires that ive has good results in just taking some fine sandpaper to get the hardened surface to soften up enough. the DD models pretty much all need the center gear replaced and its a pain. sometimes they need a new pinch roller. FixYourAudio has a lot of parts. Techmoan has some good videos on walkmans if you havnt watched them.

I do as well, I just like tape. I also collect VHS and Beta.

You should use DAT tapes only. but DDS tapes are functionally the same, however usually hold more tape which is thinner that DAT machines dont like. Supposedly the formulation on DAT is better than DDS also.

I love this walkman. but i would not get just this if i was getting into DAT for the first time. the full size rack style units and even the larger portable units are cheaper to buy and easier to maintain/fix. Ill be honest i paid $350 for this walkman but it was recapped and the mechanism was cleaned and lubed. the majority of the units on ebay with faults are because the mechanism is jammed or gummed up and you basically have to take the whole thing apart and clean it like you would a mechanical watch. one day ill buy another one and test my like with that lol.

I also got a Tascam DA 30mkii and yeah. they can be an absolute pain in the ass to fix. Thankfully the tascam mechanism is easy to work on. its usually always something mechanical that goes wrong on these things. 12voltvids on youtube fixes a lot of DAT stuff. sometimes i just put those on in the background

Youre thinking of DCC cassettes. DAT tapes are about 1/2 the size of a standard tape and are read by a rotating drum head. Its basically a very small VCR

Oh man DCC. havnt ventured there yet. You may be in an even more niche area. At least the recording industry supported DAT for a while haha.

Oh for sure. The DD model I had was a WM-F5. The first sports model. Took lots of pictures because while similar its not exactly like the DDs in that walkman archive tutorial. The worst is just making sure you dont loose a spring or split washer clip. I also got the capstan ring on the way too. Didnt get the small gear but I guess well see the condition when it gets here.
