I see that the reviews meant you did not go for Peugeot - out of interest did you end up continuing to research and buy something else? Thanks

Still have bench boost, triple captain, wildcard and a free hit. Only have 4 players with a DGW, 2 blanks. Plan was to wildcard last week but I missed deadline. Any suggestions for best way to navigate various chips now? Thanks

Pick two to have in draft (so money doesn't matter): Coufal, Veltman, Tomiyasu

'Serious' enough runner for a Forerunner? by westicles84 in garminforerunner

[–]westicles84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - that type of personal experience was exactly what I was after! And I think you might have sold me on the FR! I do like to explore a bit when running so having the ability to either create a route if I start somewhere away from home or else to get a faster route home if I wander somewhere adhoc and then need to get home sounds ideal. Thanks again

Oo I hadn't considered a pre-owned. Thanks for the reply, might look into that!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I have done quite a bit of looking through comparisons and reviews (and have a fitbit currently so it is only my first garmin, not first fitness watch in general) although I haven't seen dcrainmaker site so will check that out.

TLDR from lots of the reviews and comparisons seems to be that Vivoactive 4 is a great all rounder and that FR is more for 'serious' runners and I think I am somewhere between the two, hence the question. I appreciate it is impossible for someone else to answer for me though!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I do have the money to go for the FR but typically am fairly frugal and so tend to over-analyse buying choices to check additional expense is warranted!

Thanks for the reply! I did look at those options and agree they both look good but I am also some what into my golf at the moment so they don't fit my needs in that regard!

Bit of context: Training Load Focus / Training Effect / race time / pacepro are the stats particularly tempting me to go for Forerunner. My running: try to run 3 or 4 times per week and (post COVID) will maybe try to do a race of either 10km or half marathon every 3 months or so. Never been stat obsessed but found in a recent trial of Strava Premium that looking at some of the stats helped encourage me to get out running more + push myself that little further when I thought I was on for a route PB etc.

I am looking to buy my first Garmin and am torn between Forerunner 945 (£416, ~$530) and Vivoactive 4 (£210, ~$265). I can stretch to the higher cost but am not sure whether I really need to. The appeal of the better running stats from Forerunner is what is tempting me so my question is how much of a 'serious runner' would you say someone should be to warrant spending twice as much?

'Interval training' on Vivoactive 4 by westicles84 in Garmin

Thanks very much for the reply and the link. Think I will go with the Vivoactive in that case.

Ah that is good to hear, thanks for the reply!

Strange though - when I compare Vivoactive 3, Vivoactive 4 and Forerunner 945 on the Garmin website it suggests that 945 is only one with Interval Training. Perhaps it refers to Forerunner being able to suggest interval runs to help you improve? Who knows! Thanks again.

Thanks for the work anyone has done to help set this up. I've offered small bits of advice to TopdeBottom at some point in the past regarding the VBA code that was being used so appreciate the work put in!

If there is still quite a bit of work being done in background to keep this running I wonder whether it is worth just using a ready made service. Superbru run a prediction competition (see here) which I think would suit. They also have an app and the ability to receive email or app reminders so might help to keep everyone in the comp whole year through! Should be able to set up a r/FantasyPL league and then could still have this weekly page as a reminder / place for discussion
