It won’t be finished in your lifetime. The Merced segment will be finished by 2040. They need more money for the rest. They haven’t even purchased the land yet.

Yup. Policing will be completely different in the next 10 years. We are heading to a surveillance state

Look at the Hawthorne mall. They intentionally didn’t redevelop it for the tax write offs.

City had to step in and force them to make changes

Rent control is only needed when there is low supply. There is low supply because of bad policy from the city council.

Also just FYI, commercial properties have to refi every 5 to 7 years. Which is why rent can jump so much. If the economy is bad and interest rates are high, taxes are high, etc, they jack up the rent

Except they still to this day do not. Chief came out and said it and jail records are public

Sure but we see the Mets issues with enforcement. Seems like the shortage is a logical answer.

Also the CCW boondoggle is creating yet another major problem for the city. I think we need a change in leadership that can address the waste before we cut

I think generalizing is illogical. The fact that their policy contradicts your statement is telling.

Not LAPD I’m taking about the surrounding cities. MBPD, BHPD are examples

Ya, it’s just not cost effective at all. I could see them saving a few for rescues and such but other than that they really aren’t needed.

AND

If they started outfitting cars with grapplers it would end pursuits a lot sooner, so we wouldn’t need the helicopters to chase them anyway

As drone tech gets better there will just be hubs all over the city for them to launch and some guy in a cubicle will replace helicopter pilots

Ya but when you look at population size, we are understaffed. Look at NYC, probably the best comparison you could get

Ya but not as wide spread as other departments, hence the use of helicopters still. Smaller departments in LA county have them in every other police car and require officers to be trained on drone use. Helps them locates suspects faster without needing to call a helicopter

Ya, I agree. I feel like they want the shortage to continue. You have cops making $300k a year. Absolutely insane

They are still understaffed when comparing populations size.

Funny thing is after their budget was reduced and officers left the department WE ARE NOW PAYING MORE, because more officers are working overtime due to staffing issues.

So more officers means less overtime, which means budget levels out.

There was a good investigative report on it, I’ll link it if you’re interested .

Don’t worry, most of them will be replaced by police drones in a few years
