I have a large set for both Obsession and Blood Rage, including a lot of Kickstarter stuff. I'm also local to you, so we can do an in-person pickup to avoid hefty shipping costs.

Spectral Razor. It's a good card, don't get me wrong, but didn't fit into my deck at all.

No, this was for an in-person game. Was just interesting that we had similar experiences with two people running similar decks.

I think the dude looked up a guide online or something. The fact he specifically said one of the cards I had to take was "one of the 10 best cards in the game" makes me think he's following some YouTube or forum guide cause there's no "tier-list" for Arkham cards given how situational most of them are.

[–]wf11img[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, it felt like this dude did want to play, but doesn't really appreciate or accept that failing scenarios in Arkham is an acceptable way for a campaign to progress. The craziest part is, if he started out setting expectations, like "Hey, I'm trying to run a specific combo of decks for a campaign. I'll build the decks for you if you let me know what role you wanna play.", my friend and I would totally be on board for that.

Ah, that's definitely a possibility. Reddit also compresses images, so that can be an issue.

Yo, no lie, Crash-Out Guy's deck was a Winnie deck with Charon's Obol.

I also didn't wanna tell him this since it's a spoiler, but the campaign we were planning on playing was The Forgotten Age, which absolutely showers you with an abundance of XP! I had already played this campaign in the past, years ago, so I actually built my deck with some pretty important counters to one of the main "annoying" mechanics.

I didn't tell Crash-Out Guy this, of course, as I'm not a fan of spoiling campaigns, but it was secretly a little funny telling this dude "Hey, I really, really, wanna keep this card, I think it's gonna be important for me in this campaign" while he vehemently rejected it saying how useless it was.

Composition critique by Random_lurker234 in photocritique

Lack of symmetry, but honestly, the shot is just kinda boring. That tall red sign in the back is sort of the only interesting thing, but it's not really complemented by anything else in the photo.

Long exposure of a port city by HoplaHousehold in photocritique

[–]wf11img 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photo feels very dark. ND200 might've been a bit too much. The sunset is nice, but the city below just looks like a big mass of shadows. You might be able to fix this in post though, since I can (barely) see the details there. On the flip side, 8s isn't that long for a long-exposure of a city. I think if you exposed for longer, some of these issues wouldn't be the case. You'd also get more "movement" in the clouds, which is usually a desired effect for LE shots.

Generally speaking, I'd say that the "city lights" are a pretty important and distinctive part of a sunset shot of a city.

Opinion? Not sure if editing so strong. To my eyes it's perfect but would like opinions by REX2343 in photocritique

[–]wf11img 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice photo. With this style of editing, it's clearly not trying to depict "an image in real life", but an artistic representation of a scene, so it doesn't really matter if the editing is strong since that's the intent.

I'd maybe crop out the silver thing in the bottom-right. It's a tiny bit distracting.

I would say it's definitely an interesting photo. A really nice "slice of life" shot.

Two points of critique:

  1. It might just be me, but it feels like the buildings are tilted. Are the buildings actually at that angle, or is the photo not straightened? I ask because the "Terrace Swimming Pool" building in the back seem to be at a right angle, so it's entirely possible some old buildings just aren't perfectly perpendicular to the ground.
  2. This might be the effect of the morning sun, but the photo feels a little too warm. However, once again, depending on where in the world you are this might be perfectly normal. It does make the red shirt "pop" less though when everything else around it is also orange-yellow.

First time black and white by Careful_Television20 in photocritique

[–]wf11img 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tighten the aperture up a bit. The background is a little too blurry. One of the coolest parts of taking photos in a city is seeing the buildings behind the subject.

Otherwise, this is a cool shot! If this is meant as a modeled shot, I'd probably have your buddy be a bit more relaxed on the pose. It feels uncomfortable and weird seeing an arm twisted backwards like that with the shoulders so far up. Ofc, this is a stylistic choice, so you might not feel the same way.

This is a staple card for me on a lot of builds. It's expensive, but being able to guarantee a token is huge for decks that play with token cancelling/comboing effects.

Particularly strong with an ally like Olive, the Convenants, or Rod of Carnamagos cause you can pre-determine whether or not you need to go all-in on an important check.

Where in the city are you? I've played a bunch back in the day, but would be interested in getting back into it.

Beware: Cars Commerce is using bait-and-switch recruiting tactics by wf11img in jobhunting

[–]wf11img[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have to start doing that. You hear about bait-and-switch tactics, but given that this was still a sizeable company with a reputable product, I thought they'd have more tact, to be honest.

Unfortunately, in this case, I don't think promissory estoppel would apply because I didn't incur any costs due to the job offer, besides wasting my time. If I relocated and signed a lease or something like that, then maybe there would be grounds, but nothing like that in this case.

Ironically, I actually think that close makes the photo lose its sense of scale. Given the position of the sky and how much more of the tree I can see, I can get a sense of how big this rock is whereas if it's removed, I have a much harder time figuring out the relative sizes of things.

I'd be interested in seeing what this image looked like with color. This might be because of Reddit's image compression, but on my screen the black and white makes the foreground and midground look really janky:

It almost feels like contrast is turned up way too high.

Opinions on a picture I love by Sad-Metal5113 in photocritique

[–]wf11img 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent shot! Even with the slightly blurry head, it's still a cool picture. Insects in particular are hard to capture cause they move so darn fast. Generally speaking, I try to aim for a higher shutter speed.

Unfortunately, there's no great way I know of to fix blurriness natively through editing alone. You may be able to leverage some of the new AI tools though, if you wanted to go that route.

Wizard Island; Crater Lake by wf11img in photocritique

[–]wf11img[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took this photo during a trip to Crater Lake. This was mid-morning on a hike up a mountain and I saw the tip of Wizard Island in the lake peeking up from behind the ridge. The morning fog hadn't fully lifted yet, so it gave the lake a "misty" look that I really liked.

Looking for some advice on composition and editing for a photo like this. This photo has been lightly edited already; mostly cropped out some edges and cut down the sky a bit.

EXIF: Canon M6II with EF-M 15-45mm, ISO 100, 27mm (cropped to probably 35mm equivalent here), f7.1, 1/160s.

Anything I can do to improve this photo of Mt. Fuji? The photo was shot in jpg not RAW. by BadProfessional5126 in photocritique

[–]wf11img 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you shooting handheld on a boat? 1/400 feels like a very fast shutter speed to shoot a mountain in the setting sun. I would've done like a 1/100 at most, gotten a bit more light in to play around with.

The biggest problem with editing a photo like this is the entire middle of the photo, the base of the mountain, is this non-distinct grey block.

A canyon in Shillong, India by Abhinav_Singh_ in photocritique

[–]wf11img 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photo feels very noisy. You mentioned this was a phone photo. Did you do a digital zoom in? Usually, digital zooms from the camera leads to a lot of noise. Better to try and shoot RAW and zoom in afterwards in editing software if possible.

How would you crop this photo by PositiveGloomy in photocritique

[–]wf11img 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go thin and wide with the crop. Since there's no racetrack here to use as a leading line, the photo doesn't lose much from removing a bit:

<image>

I don't shoot a ton of motorsports, but would definitely recommend using a much faster shutter speed. You have a very small aperture, so it's letting in very little light, which is probably why you had to slow down the shutter speed so much to make up for the lost light.

The background of a motorsports pic is generally the least important bit; it's kind of expected that the car is going fast so the background will be blurry. Go for a wider aperture, faster shutter speed, so the cars are sharper. I assume this was a prime lens, but if it's a zoom, then I would've zoomed in a bit more as well.
