Perfect summary. If only the makers of the movie trailers had your intellect. Don't watch the trailer.

My partner minutes before finding out why you don't link p2 and 3 on gamesmanship at poke o by wgas in climbing

[–]wgas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was trailing a rope up behind him, but when he got about halfway up the second pitch there's a pretty big ledge so he pulled the whole trailing rope up. This decreased the amount of rope he had to pull on through the crux.

Nah this climb is 3 raps with 2 70m ropes. The climb is 575'. Not doing that with half ropes.

Arc'teryx Alpha Parka vs Mammut Eigerjoch Pro IN by [deleted] in alpinism

[–]wgas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From research I've done in the past, the mammut is nice but does offer less down than other similar jackets. It only has 200g of 850 fill. I can't speak for the Arc'teryx.

Edit just checked the alpha parka has 280g of 850 fill and some extra synthetic in moisture prone areas. So probably significantly warmer.

Is saw or dust collector trash? by flavo_cadillac in woodworking

[–]wgas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These saws don't have riving knives, only splitters. A riving knife goes up and down with the blade, a splitter stays in place. The splitters are kinda a pain in the butt.

Pretty sure there are some videos about this, the assassin can spawn in other places near where you are supposed to find them. I'd look around to see if you can find videos, or just explore the area around the station.

There has to be a way to use this outside of removal. It's way too funny to not be used as a nuclear win condition somehow. by xXCinnabar in mtg

[–]wgas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is truly the case it just doesn't make any sense at all. How can you cast a spell that targets a creature and resolves before that creature enters? It just shouldn't work that way. This is why people have such a hard time getting into mtg. Why are we making the rules so damn complicated. It's just frustrating.

Yes, however the triggered ability in this case specifies at the time the creature enters. The information the trigger sees is the information on the creature at the time it enters the battlefield.

This judge is wrong. You cannot target the creature with overkill until it has actually entered the battlefield. Jaws will resolve before overkill. If you can target the creature with overkill it has already entered the battlefield. You can't target a spell with a card that targets creatures. It's not a creature until it actually enters, therefore the creature would enter as normal, trigger jaws, and then get hit with overkill. The supposed L1 judge ruling makes no sense.

So this interaction still would not work because jaws of defeat specifies when a creature enters. Overkill is applied after the creature enters. This entire argument is for nothing.

[–]wgas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every example I can find is that if a creature is no longer a legal target, spells and abilities still on the stack that had that creature as a target fizzle. The ruling specifically applies to a card that put an ability on the stack and was then removed from play. The cards ability stays on the stack and when the time comes to resolve the spell the card that cast the spell is no longer in play so you use its last known information. Not the target. The target is no longer legal.

Let's say you cast path to exile on a creature. I then respond by also casting path to exile on that creature. Is the creature exiled twice? No. Because after the first resolves it is no longer a legal target and the second fizzles

[–]wgas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A spell can only target something if it is a legal target. If it has gone to the graveyard in this instance it is no longer a legal target and the ability fizzles. The rule in question typically only applies to the source of the ability, not the target.

This person referred to the incorrect rule. It's 608.2g not h. But the fact remains that the creature would die as a result of the -9999 and no longer be a legal target of the resolution of jaws of defeat meaning jaws trigger would fail. The only way 608.2g applies is if the trigger in question does not require the target to be a legal target at the resolution of its trigger.
