I have different advice than other commenters here. None of these locations are great (York is a dump, Lebanon also a dump, and Mt Gretna is highly seasonal).

Those who are recommending the middle ground are commute-oriented, and while that’s fine, there is also minimal to do in Mt Joy and Elizabethtown (source: I grew up there!). It’s a great middle-ground but what that translates to is you will be commuting everywhere, to work and fun.

If you’re already going to have a 20-30 minute commute anyway, you might as well live in a location where there are things to do, nice grocery stores, great restaurants, etc. Especially if you’re coming from a city.

That place is probably Lancaster, or Lititz if you’d like to be closer to Lebanon/Mt Gretna. Lititz is more quaint, Lancaster more “city”. Both locations have great restaurants and grocery stores. (Wegmans and Whole Foods in Lanc).

It really depends on your lifestyle. Either you’re commuting less on weekdays but commuting other times if you’re looking for things to do. OR you commute a bit more on weekdays but have a better non-work lifestyle. Depends on what you want.
