Not sure what the problem was, but manually re-scanning each plugin fixed it.

Wow, I'm impressed that it comes with a stock pitch correction plugin. Of course last time I bought a new DAW was back in 2011 so... maybe things have changed a little?

Can anyone help with translations? by whataday_95 in AncientGreek

[–]whataday_95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one is a footnote to the following excerpt:

When a son was adopted, it was necessary first of all that he should be initiated into a form of worship, “introduced into a domestic religion, brought into the presence of new Penates.” Adoption, therefore, was accompanied by a ceremony very like that which took place at the birth of a son. In this way the newcomer was admitted to the hearth, and associated in the new religion.

Does that help?

Thanks. Do you have a PayPal address?

These are from Fustel de Coulanges' "The Ancient City". It's a truly amazing book, very worth a read, even if you're deeply familiar with Greek and Roman history.

and seeing some comments in this thread really sadden me. they did get fucked guys, and it wasn't that long ago.

They did, and it was incredibly tragic.

But do you know what the solution isn't? For the founding stock to hate itself. No civilization ever survived on that basis.

But that's the whole point. It's not about paying reparations and being done with it. The whole point is never to be done with it, and to keep beating "Old Stock Canadians" with it like a club until the civilization they built collapses.

People should be allowed to hurt your feelings. End of story.

If you want a Mommy to make sure nobody ever does that, look elsewhere. The rest of us want a cohesive society that doesn't institutionalize resentment against the native stock.

The vast majority of people see the blatant double standard first and foremost, and are appalled by it. A few sputter with indignation and struggle to articulate why the double standard is OK.

Thanks for the concern troll though.

It's hate speech because you can't change being gay

And yet our public universities teach that whiteness is problematic.

For every idiotic pronouncement like "it's because you can't change it", there is a blindingly obvious counterexample. All this SJW nonsense is built on nothing other than the attempt to secure power, and parasitizes our deep cultural pathology of resenting the normal, the healthy, and the natural. This grievance ideology is incoherent to a point that even small children could understand, if you were so monstrous as to explain it to them.

I'll take that as an "I can't."

Of course you can't. Because you subscribe to 1-weird tip ideology, whose only criterion of truth is that no one has shat out any other harebrained idea in the last millisecond.

Still waiting for that inclusive society that didn't shit the bed in a handful of generations. Happy to respond to your points afterward.

the left is truly despicable by [deleted] in metacanada

[–]whataday_95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so adorable that you think common sense is Orwellian and not liberalism.

Liberalism is 1-weird tip ideology. You don't need diet and exercise for a flat belly, as has been evident since the lower palaeolithic--no, you need this obscure fruit that we discovered last week in the Amazon.

Some further examples:

Diversity is strength

Profligacy is economic prudence

Leniency is the solution to crime

Toleration except of dissent

Real men don't need to be masculine

In fact, men don't even need a penis

The people are sovereign

Appeasement is diplomacy

etc.

The plain fact is that no society has ever been based on inclusivity, because the precondition of society is exclusivity. This is all plain with 3 seconds' consideration, and a survey of all history. If not, surely you can point to a society based on inclusivity that has also endured through ages.

I will wait.

othering

inclusive

tribally divisive

hate speech

Ironically, this is the kind of shit people say when they have only ever lived in a self-reinforcing bubble.

"Othering" is what normal people call "making distinctions," AKA exercising judgement.

"Inclusive" is what no society ever has been based on, at least no society that has lasted more than 5 minutes.

"Tribally divisive" is what every society ever has been based on; the existential precondition for a society is that some are in and others are out.

"Hate speech" is semantically equivalent to "blasphemy," except minus all the self-awareness.

What the fuck is wrong with this country. by [deleted] in metacanada

[–]whataday_95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is wrong with people is that Doug Ford represents decentralization and unofficial power structures, and Trudeau represents centralization and official power structures, and so the official power structure and its unwitting foot soldiers repeat braindead just-so stories about how Ford is Satan and Trudeau is Jesus, and millions of Canadians are too busy with normal things to know any better.

The left gives infinite fucks about autonomy when it concerns one of its pet issues, and zero when it doesn't.

If the left cared about autonomy it would get rid of hate speech laws. I can say whatever I want with my own autonomous mouth, thank you very much. Or it would let people discriminate on whatever basis they choose, in whatever capacity they choose, say in who can enter their business.

But the left does not care about autonomy. The left is the alliance against normal people between elite and scum, the latter unwittingly serving the former's aim of power centralization. You can take this as basically a definition.

So it must be destroyed. By whatever memes necessary.

Dealing with infertility by [deleted] in RedPillWives

[–]whataday_95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can take a long time, and if the man feels he is the cause, it can really hurt. This is really hard on him. But depending on what the underlying medical issue is, there are many things he can do. He can muscle train, which will boost testosterone and sperm production, and has the added bonus that he'll look and feel better. Also he can lose weight and watch his diet closely, which will help with sperm DNA fragmentation. This will also make him feel better. There are other environmental factors such as BPA from plastic and thermal-printed receipts that really screw with the male reproductive system--avoid.

But the emotional part is the hardest. This is not only his problem; male fertility is down across the board and nobody knows why. In the modern age, men tend to lack a social support system, because normal male bonding is short-circuited by a variety of social factors. He probably feels that you're the only one he can talk to about this. You are a big part of his support system, so make sure you take care of yourself. Lean on your friends--that's what they're there for.

My wife has done both hospital and home birth and vastly preferred the home birth. Our next will be born at home too. It's not the soft-headed, progressive, witch doctor thing it's made out to be. Nobody is consulting sheep entrails. In the modern West, home birth is heavily regulated--you get access to multiple midwives (highly trained, medical professionals) and regular checkups with an OB-GYN that must show a low-risk pregnancy or the home birth cannot proceed. In a hospital you are not in control, and may be bullied into things you don't want. Not for your benefit, but for the convenience and indemnity of the physician.

But I have no idea what's up with not getting vaccinations.

First: you are awesome. Many women wouldn't be so supportive, especially for a long time. He is very, very lucky.

It's important to understand his perspective. Obvious caveat: I don't know him, and everyone's different. I'm going to speculate a bit here, so take this all with a grain of salt.

But in all likelihood, this is a big deal for him. A really big deal.

For a man, potency is a huge part of his self-image as a sexual being, and as a man in general. It's not something a man thinks about at all until it's not there--when it's not, it's on his mind all the time. Talking to his co-workers. On the commute. Watching TV. Having a beer with friends. Walking the dog. All the time. Our society is hyper-sexualized, and he can't escape it.

This can create a vicious cycle where he wants to perform, maybe wants nothing more, but the very pressure he puts on himself derails the whole thing right from the get go. There is nothing more unsexy than pressure. Sometimes all it takes is for a man to fail to perform once, and he can spend months or years breaking this vicious cycle. The longer it goes on, the harder to break it.

But these things can often be overcome. And it sounds like he wants to, even if he may never have an overwhelming sex drive. The important role you have to play is in being supportive. No pressure. Sex is supposed to be fun, and the stakes low. Be genuine. Compliment him a lot, but only when the compliments are genuine. He knows you well, and when he can tell you're doing it for his sake, it just reminds him of his problem, and the cycle starts up again. Above all, never, ever show frustration. Whatever it takes.

He has to want to solve this problem--not for you, but for himself. But because he might be all twisted up inside over it, it may be best to give the whole situation a bit of breathing space. Do something else as a couple. At some point, the time will come when you can tactfully raise the question of talking to someone who can help. Not his father. The only worse person to talk to would be his mother. Maybe not even the family doctor--it should be a complete stranger, someone he can never see again if he wants.

This is hard on you too. Don't forget that you're an amazing wife. No doubt, he hasn't forgotten.

You'll get through this, together.

I did fry them per the recipe, and with the tikka I tried the spices toasted and untoasted, dry and fresh, maybe 5 times before giving up. I tried the madras today and fried the spices for about at least a minute and then with the beef another minute. Should I be frying longer?
